I struggle with this. It is has always felt important to me to know what my *specific* white ancestors did and what bad things they were responsible for, but it’s possible this is a scrupulosity anxiety thing and not a useful one.

I had been too lazy to do this up until this point but I just did it. Maybe the AI bubble will burst in a year and I won't have to worry because I'll be training my birds to fly to you all with shitposts

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

not a hack, per se, but a thought:

buy 2 costco broilers for $10
come home from work
put in foil pans on top of baking pan
sprinkle with salt, pepper, butter
bake for 2 hours at 350°F
cool in fridge
next morning, pick meat and chop; throw corpses in hot water for 90 minutes

although it doesn't have quite the immediate impact of Donor's Choose, I also recommend supporting Books Not Bans! This tiny org in SF packages and sends out boxes of LGBTQIA+ books to places all over the country.

It’s just sensible to stock up on sardines. And the Ortiz tuna. And the As do Mar tuna. And the smoked kippers. And the smoked trout. And the salmon. And the mackerel. And the anchovies.

“how many cans of sardines have you eaten RECENTLY, Sharon?”

six! because 1 can of sardines + 1 egg + 1 big carrot grated + 2 tbsp flour makes six fish fritters or two lunches.
sjgochenour.bsky.social
also sardines are a nice thing to put in the little free pantry.

it is not doomerist to have 30 cans of sardines in my basement. sardines are tasty.

I haven’t walked around Minneapolis, but my theory is that it’s virtually always a mindset thing. Boston is a walking city, ergo I walk places. Omaha is not a walking city, ergo I drive places. (Downtown Omaha is basically fine to walk with a few exceptions around interstate on-ramps.)

oh boy time to check the credit card charges I’ve racked up buying sale sardines
