I had a big messy cry today.

It’s been so long since my Nonna last prepared anything for a family gathering, let alone hosted thanksgiving, but even so, all of those memories came flooding back to me at once during dinner today.

Grief is proof that time is not linear.

QOTD: “How can something so silly taste so delicious?”

- my son, upon trying Thanksgiving turkey for the first time

(We live in a place where wild turkey sightings are not uncommon & my son finds them to be very entertaining.)

Hear me out: Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.

She can be stoic & mysterious, has poise & beauty, & I would totally buy her as the type of woman who inspires such ardent passion in someone like Gomez.

Vaccines are safe and effective.

Autism isn't caused by vaccines, and autistic people and their families deserve our support.

When you want information, ask your doctor.

It's more important than ever for all of us to speak plainly, truthfully, and directly about public health.

Nobody things to warn you that when you become an English teacher as a Take That you end up working with That One English Teacher for the rest of your life.

Debut books should get a Take-That section for That One English Teacher. Even anonymous to avoid the defamation risk might put enough fear in them.

(Mine said you couldn't use passive voice outside the very special assignment on it until you were published. Because EoS says "writers" can use it.)

books should have an anti-acknowledgements section where the author talks shit about all the people who fucked them over while they were trying to write the thing. not bc I personally want to write one but bc I love gossip

Sometimes studying English in post-secondary ruins a person’s love of reading & writing, or their capacity to do so for pure enjoyment.

You cannot really teach someone how to write. In one way or another, they must come to a point where they have the confidence & capacity to teach themselves.

Or get paid, sometimes by the word. When I found this out about Dickens as I fought my way thru extraneous chapters of Great Expectations, it made me feel a whole lot better

If you're wondering whether or not to get a flu shot, I didn't get one in time, and I just had a fever dream where I was in the Drew Carey Show because several days ago I was on the Wikipedia page for the Drew Carey Show. You don't have to do this to yourself.

Update: fell asleep before pie.

Pie has been postponed.

Anyway it’s Canadian Thanksgiving or whatever I’m going to go try to stay awake long enough to enjoy the company of my loved ones & eat pumpkin pie bc I am rudderless upon a river of family now.

I wonder how many ppl are gonna get salmonella this thanksgiving bc they got ChatGPT to write their menus & recipes for them.

Columbus Day is fascinating bc it was an attempt to lend whiteness to Italians in response to massive demonstrations after the lynching, & I find it quite symbolic that they did this by implicating all of us in Columbus’s crimes. It’s the gift that keeps on giving (derogatory)
enots406.bsky.social
I didn’t know that Columbus Day became a thing because of a large lynching of Italian immigrants, so I now agree with that guy on subway interviews, just change it to a different Italian.

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket
tlecaque.bsky.social
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

It’s not cool to make fun of ppl who have a fear of inflatable cookie-consuming beasts for example I know & love someone very close to me who also used to scream in terror when he saw this coming towards him.
