It's extremely funny that Kendrick wrote a whole verse addressed to Drake's secret daughter, we all waited for receipts for that, they never came, but everyone was still cool with it because we all figured "yeah, statistically speaking, Drake probably has a daughter he's neglecting somewhere."

If I were writing a research paper on the subject, that data would be unusable, but for a hobbyist project tracking music trends for the sake of documenting general cultural evolution? It works fine.

I hope you understand that this is coming from the general understanding that "there is no way to become a billionaire ethically," a view that I and an increasingly large view of the population share. Not all billionaires are equally bad, but one CANNOT get THAT wealthy without being exploitative.

Honestly, I'd say the backlash is less from any trad-wife vibes alone, and more just the fact that the entire album has collective, fused vibes of "the way things are is wonderful, and nothing needs to change outside of my petty rich girl squabbles," and the fact that's being so heavily rewarded.

...especially when her doing that is resulting in 10 times more streams than anyone else making music right now, which has turned her into a billionaire.

It's not any ONE of these aspects that's the problem, it's the fact that they're dogpiled on top of each other that has people so nettled.

You don't have to agree with me that it's not good, it's 100% fine if you like it, but you have to admit that this album is VERY similar to the aesthetics/style of Midnights & TTPD, and when you mix that with a lyrical vibe of "I'm good with how things are," yeah, people are bothered by that...

Taylor Swift is at an unimpeachable place in pop culture right now. She has won, she can do whatever she wants, and yet she chooses to make nothing but the most incremental of changes and updates, with most of the actual swings she takes on the album resulting in humiliating misses.

I mean, I'd be fine with an album where Taylor Swift is happy... you know, if she can make it a) interesting and b) NOT a retread of countless middling musical ideas and overwrought lyrical techniques that she's beaten into the ground for half a decade.

Morgan's core audience doesn't listen to him because they care about who he is and what he stands for, while Taylor's audience very much does.

Her marriage to her own public image is something she's leaned into, while Morgan hides from his. Of course she's gonna prompt more public discussion.

Taylor Swift currently has 12 out of the 12 most popular songs in the US. She's gonna come up.

She made an album that's worth thinking about for myriad reasons, so that's what I'm doing. Sorry if you don't like that, but it is what it is.

...and support is what directly turned her into that, and I'd argue that in the current climate, anyone who is still blindly supporting her, refusing to even attempt to engage with where those mixed emotions from her fandom and the public are coming from, deserves all the derision that finds them.
