Oh hey, more Twitter users incoming!

If you're new here, I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that I'm really not trying to actually "accomplish" all that much here per se... I'm just looking for a place to thought-vomit that isn't filled with spambots, Nazis and AI.

I'm just pointing out that if literally every person in America treated ICE like this (i.e. the way they deserve to be treated), it would be literally impossible for them to stop all of us.

She gets all the flowers. I mean ALL of them. If we see her, we immediately have to give her flowers.

The Pope is evidently a decent man & good priest with a huge task, but him yelling to a random guy about the Cubs like he's in the parking lot at Menards will always make me double-check if I'm sober

I might change my Top 20 rankings to cover this, and I'm only like 60% joking when I say that.

I’m not offended that they’re trying to remake “Amadeus.” I’m just puzzled. That movie is flawless. It’s as re-watchable as it gets. How do you even improve that?

It's extremely funny that Kendrick wrote a whole verse addressed to Drake's secret daughter, we all waited for receipts for that, they never came, but everyone was still cool with it because we all figured "yeah, statistically speaking, Drake probably has a daughter he's neglecting somewhere."

No, I'm not using Whitburn's data, but I'm aware that any data from before Billboard is shaky.

If I were writing a research paper on the subject, that data would be unusable, but for a hobbyist project tracking music trends for the sake of documenting general cultural evolution? It works fine.

I hope you understand that this is coming from the general understanding that "there is no way to become a billionaire ethically," a view that I and an increasingly large view of the population share. Not all billionaires are equally bad, but one CANNOT get THAT wealthy without being exploitative.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
Honestly, I'd say the backlash is less from any trad-wife vibes alone, and more just the fact that the entire album has collective, fused vibes of "the way things are is wonderful, and nothing needs to change outside of my petty rich girl squabbles," and the fact that's being so heavily rewarded.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
I mean... yeah, if "being a better person than Donald Trump and Elon Musk" is your bar for human decency, then yeah, Taylor Swift does clear that 🤷‍♂️

Personally though, I hope you'll pardon me if my standards are a little bit higher than that lmao
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
...especially when her doing that is resulting in 10 times more streams than anyone else making music right now, which has turned her into a billionaire.

It's not any ONE of these aspects that's the problem, it's the fact that they're dogpiled on top of each other that has people so nettled.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
You don't have to agree with me that it's not good, it's 100% fine if you like it, but you have to admit that this album is VERY similar to the aesthetics/style of Midnights & TTPD, and when you mix that with a lyrical vibe of "I'm good with how things are," yeah, people are bothered by that...

Taylor Swift is at an unimpeachable place in pop culture right now. She has won, she can do whatever she wants, and yet she chooses to make nothing but the most incremental of changes and updates, with most of the actual swings she takes on the album resulting in humiliating misses.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
I mean, I'd be fine with an album where Taylor Swift is happy... you know, if she can make it a) interesting and b) NOT a retread of countless middling musical ideas and overwrought lyrical techniques that she's beaten into the ground for half a decade.

Morgan's core audience doesn't listen to him because they care about who he is and what he stands for, while Taylor's audience very much does.

Her marriage to her own public image is something she's leaned into, while Morgan hides from his. Of course she's gonna prompt more public discussion.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
My job is to review pop music. That is what I'm paid to do.

Taylor Swift currently has 12 out of the 12 most popular songs in the US. She's gonna come up.

She made an album that's worth thinking about for myriad reasons, so that's what I'm doing. Sorry if you don't like that, but it is what it is.

"Oh I'm not saying that Taylor is the worst offender in the current zeitgeist" Watching all of your posts about Taylor over the last week, you sure are implying that huh

The discourse from this album has exhausted me. I literally can't just say "This album is not good" and move on with my life
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
And for the record, while I'm not gonna act on it right now, I do have access to records going as far back as the 1890s, meaning that I will someday be able to tell you the most popular song of literally every single week in the entire history of recorded music.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
I have now officially finished calculating the most popular song in the United States on every single week of the last 100 years, from January 1926 up to the present day.

You should be terrified of what I'm planning to do with this information.

...and support is what directly turned her into that, and I'd argue that in the current climate, anyone who is still blindly supporting her, refusing to even attempt to engage with where those mixed emotions from her fandom and the public are coming from, deserves all the derision that finds them.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
...with her, that I'd argue a more zeitgeist-driven reaction to Taylor's album is completely inevitable. Her life is her music, always has been, and her life right now is being a smug, satisfied billionaire with nothing to prove. A lot of Swifties are reckoning with the fact that their loyalty...

Morgan Wallen being so big rn is undoubtedly worse than Taylor being so big, but his listeners don't care; that's a conversation for the critics and the critics alone to have, at least for now.

Taylor's appeal is so completely entangled with the parasocial relationship that her biggest fans have...
