At the advent of Trumpism, many conservative pundits asked, "Why is the GOP abandoning conservatism? Conservatism is about personal freedom and pragmatism, not populist mobs! Where did this wholly different thing come from?"

MAGA isn't a deviation from conservatism, but the apotheosis of it. /1

That's twenty-seven flat-out murders. That's twenty-seven lives taken without even a semblance of a legal justification under domestic or international law.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Even if TFP did bring in revenue:

The subscriber base of conservative and libertarian rags consumes their content to be entertained, and to have their priors confirmed.

That’s the opposite of journalism.
notalawyer.bsky.social
a lot of these stories assume The Free Press is a business success. but is it? they generate a ton of subscription revenue but they spend so much that they needed to raise $15M last year. we can't see the financials, but there's a good chance that the operation is a money pit.

I read Flanagan. She is many things: a brilliant prose stylist, an incisive investigative reporter, and a journalist with occasional crackpot conservative opinions.

Weiss has published unretracted falsehoods. That’s the end of any real conversation.

More of the “decorum” debate.

The problem isn’t that SCUTUS invents presidential immunity to keep the GOP candidate out of jail. It’s *the manner* in which the corruption is debated/resisted.

As if selling the news like a product reflects any knowledge of reportage.

The problem with news agencies is their ownership.

We always think billionaires are going to *insulate* us from corruption, only for them to introduce the most risk of it.

Public news is too easily shit down by Republicans.

And no one is willing to pay for reporting for its own sake.
