Funnily, the Spanish detainees of the flotilla complained that Israeli soldiers had treated them like animals; when they asked for medical attention, they were told that 'doctors do not treat animals'. Perhaps we should stop referring to animals when we insult humans.

Official website: Robin Guthrie and Will Heggie got the name from a song by pre-Simple Minds band later renamed “No Cure.” The song is rumoured to have been about two men in Glasgow, Scotland, who had a reputation for being pretentious film snobs with a fondness for the work of Jean Cocteau.

I have decided that from now on I will only accept a peer review invitation if I'm allowed to sign my report. Anonymous, blind peer reviewing should be reconsidered. I do want to know who is reviewing my work, too. The secrecy does not eliminate bias.

Much of your advice is very useful but reviewers have no right to make harsh comments or to make demands that add little or nothing of value to papers. Reviewers are not infallible and authors have all the right to question, contest, or ignore their feedback particularly if this is offered unkindly.

Rejection is now a normal part of academic life thanks to petty reviewers (and, yes, wait for AI reviewers!). Just resubmit elsewhere, and protect your mental health by growing the thickest possible skin.
