Much of your advice is very useful but reviewers have no right to make harsh comments or to make demands that add little or nothing of value to papers. Reviewers are not infallible and authors have all the right to question, contest, or ignore their feedback particularly if this is offered unkindly.

Rejection is now a normal part of academic life thanks to petty reviewers (and, yes, wait for AI reviewers!). Just resubmit elsewhere, and protect your mental health by growing the thickest possible skin.

In the Humanities, as I see it, extra-dense prose is typically masculine, though since many women also use it, I tend to distinguish between scholars naturally talented for abstraction and those of us who are not. I write clear prose and it's always been a problem in peer reviewing!
