Nearly 13, 000 air traffic controllers have been working without pay for weeks, ensuring the safety of more than 50,000 daily operations across the national airspace system (NAS).
As we head into this weekend, a surge in callouts is straining staffing levels at multiple facilities, leading to widespread impacts across the NAS. Currently, half of our Core 30 facilities are experiencing staffing shortages, and nearly 80 percent of air traffic controllers are absent at New York-area facilities.
After 31 days without pay, air traffic controllers are under immense stress and fatigue.
The shutdown must end so that these controllers receive the pay they've earned and travelers can avoid further disruptions and delays.
As we continue to reiterate, we will never compromise on safety. When staffing shortages occur, the FAA will reduce the flow of air traffic to maintain safety. This may result in delays or cancellations.

If you've ever been to one of his hotels (which I did for a work conference in the before times) the aesthetic is similar. ALL of the hotel bathrooms on his property looked like this. He thinks marble looks "rich" so he covers surfaces in it. It has nothing to do with Lincoln or appropriateness.

I unsubscribed even from the newsletter this morning because of their story about "tensions" between the liberal SCOTUS justices. I saw they were framing up Kagan and Jackson as frenemies and that was it, I don't want to hear from them again.

Wheeling is a nice sleepy suburban town, with less than half the population of my Chicago neighborhood. It's a family community with lots of kids. Any argument that Wheeling is a hot bed of crime and gangs is ridiculous on it's face.

There were also tax rebate checks in 2001 as part of the tax cuts. For single people it was usually $300. Higher for married couples and those with kids. From Wikipedia:

There was a gigantic debate about it at the time, one of those “nice problems to have” after spending my entire childhood hearing that we’d never balance the budget. Everyone getting a check for $300 was kind of a dumb waste of the opportunity to invest in our future. Short term thinking.
