It's ALIVE! Just in time for spooky season, a collection of 13 stories almost as weird as me, set in a suburban neighborhood suspiciously like the one I live in. So happy to see this book into the world. books2read/shadowhill #writinghorror #spookyseasonreads
Background is a moon in a gray night sky with silhouettes of bats. Book cover for Stories from Shadow Hill by Samantha Bryant shows a stormy night sky over a suburban neighborhood. Text at top: Just in time for spooky season. Text at bottom: shop now, 13 weird suburban tales, and the link: https://books2read/shadowhill

All of my stories are, one way or another, about how the people at the top of the heap are the problem. Much (most) evil in the world is done by them to maintain their position. The only good use of a billionaire in a story is as the main course of a cannibal feast.

#HorrorWritersChat Q3.

Who do you scare? As a writer, it's our chance to bite back, perhaps.
Q3
Do you write horror that scares the poor, the wealthy or everyone equally?

Looks right up my alley. Grabbing this one!

The House of Little Bones, my haunted, isolation/folk horror is on Kindle Countdown for only 99c/99p. It's a perfect read for the darker nights as the veil thins... #HorrorWritersChat

Hæ, halló, veriði velkomin #HorrorWritersChat

I'm Villimey, an indie horror author from Iceland. I write all kinds of horror, though my series revolves around vampires.

Oof, such a loaded question. I'd say I'm allright financially but morally? Being a petty bitch who loves revenge, 50/50?
erynmccee.bsky.social
Oh right then here we go, if it glitches I'll wait till it's back up then fire the next.
Can't say fairer than that. Hi #HorrorWritersChat, let's talk riches. Or poverty. Moral or cash, I don't mind which.
Horror is one of the more egalitarian genres I think. More room for poor...

No links please.
Question One
Assemble, horror bods!
Tell me what kind of horror you write, and how poor are you - financially or morally? You choose....

My writing should scare the wealthy and inspire the poor. I hope that's something that never changes.

Revenge horror can be so fun to write!

Thanks @erynmccee.bsky.social ! I've got THREE things happening in my writing life this October. A new collection: books2read.com/ShadowHill. A new story in an anthology: www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews... And a Kickstarter project: www.kickstarter.com/projects/fal... #HorrorWritersChat

It really does vary from story to story for me. But that is part of what I love in zombie stories--the real monsters are often still human. #HorrorWritersChat

Q4.
Do hang around for the outro, in around 10 minutes.

Which is the easier route? Or the more satisfying?

#HorrorWritersChat
Q4
In your stories: is desperation scarier than the supernatural?
samanthabwriter.bsky.social
Hmmmm…so far my characters have been largely middle class or poorer, which makes sense because so have I! I am writing a spoiled rich dude in my upcoming Gothic romance though, which I think will be fun! #HorrorWritersChat

Wanting what someone else has. Envy. Jealousy. Resentment. That's some fertile soil to grow a horror story in. Whether it's your fellow humans or creatures coveting your wealth (in whatever form), beware! #HorrorWritersChat

Q2. So many of you are diving in courageously. I salute you. Don't worry, now we go more abstract.

Q2
How does scarcity or deprivation shape the worlds you build in your stories?
samanthabwriter.bsky.social
My horror varies from eerie to disturbing across several sub-genres. I'm richer than I've ever been, but that's not saying much since I spent most of my adult life teaching public school. At least I can take my daughter to lunch without taking out a loan first now! #HorrorWritersChat

I've been writing for anthologies for a while now, but this is my first time as an invited author (not open call or slush pile). And I'm so excited! www.kickstarter.com/projects/fal...

I'm working on a new Menopausal Superheroes short story for this one (working title: She Chose Anger). #writing

It feels like the cusp of everything. And it's also f*cking exhausting! But I wouldn't give it up. I'll do what I can and it will have to be enough.

You know that moment when your side hustle has enough opportunity to fill full time hours, but doesn't pay well enough to let you give it full time hours? That's now. That's this moment for me. And it's exciting and kind of terrible at the same time. #writinglife #time #lucky

November is Trans Awareness Month. But that title seems ill-fit to current politics, so I chose a better one for the Itch book bundle I'm hosting Nov 1-14.

Authors, if your MC is trans (yes including nonbinary!) and your book meets the criteria bellow, let me know and I'll DM you the sign up form!
Trans People Take on The World Itch Bundle

Background: trans flag

Text: Eligibility & Genre:
At least one Main Character is trans (yes this includes nonbinary!)
Plot-central trans (and LGBTQIA+) themes are welcome, but not required.
Your MC combatting transphobia is welcome, but not required.
MC's who are incidentally trans solving murders, defending their kingdom, curing cancer, fighting a zombie apocalypse etc are very welcome. (So SFF, Thriller/ Mystery/ Crime/ Historical/ Drama etc.)
Romance and NSWF involving a trans MC is welcome.

Categories: Adult Fiction, novellas and full length novels.

🗣️📣 If you’re not speaking out about Letitia James’ indictment with the same fire you showed before about Jimmy Kimmel, what do your words really mean? She had the courage to take on Donald Trump—now let’s have the courage to stand with her. Speak up. Be loud. Justice needs defenders, not bystanders.

Hey, my flash fiction is still here in Dark Descent magazine Volume 14.
It is called A Good Day for Violence. I am pretty proud of it.

Go to their website Dark Holme Publishing to have a look.
Cover of Dark Descent magazine Volume 14. There is a picture of a young woman in black with black hair and wearing a black necklace. The background is red.

I think my taste bends more towards ghosts that aren't traditional. Give me things that don't have a shape, don't have a voice, warp your mind or your guts or time. I want ghosts I can long for and be afraid of at the same time.

Listen to the Symposium’s finest vocalist, as their tenor bends the living into unnatural angles and swivels them into the air! Tell us, what ghosts do you prefer? Of the folkloric tradition, or those invented by authors? And why?
#HorrorWritersChat
Question Three

Art by Jelle Husson, featuring a haunted monastery of many sharp-tipped towers scraping at the midnight sky. The largest is in the centre of the structure’s roof, whose walls are painted white. The monastery is located above a hilly terrain of dark stone and dark green moss. A stony, twisting road leads to the monastery.

It is always a delight to see our violinists perform! How the living bend their splintering bones as they float above us all! Tell us, our ghostly compatriots – which of us are better? Of the folkloric kind? Or invented by our shadowy creators?

Hello #HorrorWritersChat! It's been a hot sec.

It is I, Mitch Miller, writer of folk, sci-fi, and weird horrors of the queer kind; coming at you from the lovely (and chilly) Rocky Mountains.

As for my ghostly visage? None. My presence is only known by the absence of ice cream in your freezer.
greethewriter.bsky.social
Be welcomed to the ethereal music hall! A stringed aperitif is in order… do tell the Symposium what do you write, from where… and what IS, indeed, your wraithful visage for tonight?

Come in, come in! The Phantasmal Symposium has just begun! Settle in the ruined music hall, and tell us – what do you write, from where, and in what ghostly visage have you arrived at our askewed doorstep?
