Instead of googling I could have just looked at AO3's own announcements from less than a month ago... so yes. If you get vague comments that seem to invite you to contact the commenter outside AO3 -- discord, email, anything private -- it's probably this thing.

Or alternatively, getting account names for hacking attempts, I guess. Or some other reason I can't even fathom. I feel like the whole internet has a layer that's there just to try stuff like that, or worse. Surely fic writers must be a niche source in that ocean, but apparently every fish counts.

While googling about it I saw people often ask the same thing, I think in nutshell it's numbers game. Setting bots up is apparently easy, and as long as someone falls for it and pays what they think might be art for their fic, it's worth it to keep running.

Fandoms are public spaces. It's good to have at least some shared squee-time and hyperfocus fun together before communicating privately. I don't mean years-long collaboration, but at least the awareness that hey, they -are- in this fandom and like the same characters and actually read this thing!

Yah, I googled a bit and seems it's aiming to pull authors into discord or email (never social media or website or something public) and then either try to sell them commissions or just phish the account names for whatever. So I just went all 'fan art always alright, just link/credit' and asked-

Based on the googling results the base idea is to pull the author off AO3, aka discord, email, somewhere private, then sell commissions that may or not may not be real, or simply phish for accounts. So I didn't call them out, but I'm not going to communicate with a stranger through private means.

Yeah. WHICH character, to begin with? I actually googled a bit and found a lot of similar stuff going on, so responded with one of the recommendations, aka 'fan art always alright, you could post on ao3 or social media and link/credit!' 'n then did ask which character inspired them.

I mean... they commented on chapter 10 couple of hours after it was published. They did not read 82k words in that time only to talk about 'your character' instead of names. ...I guess this is the side effect of posting euro-midday, must have been quiet in new fics or something.

I think I got my first maybe-bot vague-compliment on AO3, you know, talking about 'my character' instead of naming anything about the fic and wanting to show me 'visual concepts' if I'm 'open to it'. Registered AO3 user, but no fics, no website, no social media, just Discord & email & one bookmark.

Chapter 10 of the Djinn's Daughter brings Ryu back to the Sand Tribe (before Wani and Hawk go and tackle him and drag him back, good for him). The obvious inevitable things keep obviousing. (It's a verb now.)

The amount of cute is killing me. I can't. I'd pick the little swordscat up for cuddles, but I'm sure it wouldn't fit his dignity and I'd get scratched. Also: so nice of Crocatdile! He takes good care of his friends.

I'm so sorry, that's challenging to wrangle. You need a lot of distractions to go, yas. 'n on very long flights they of course have the movie selections to help, too. But really, where are our teleporters? We're at 2025 already!
