Okay new rule: if you respond to my jokes with advice and I don’t know you, I’m blocking you.

Good morning, by the way.

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

Hey there 👋 I’m Mysterious Galaxy, the independent bookstore that’s bringing that Big Boromir™ energy this Saturday.

Specifically, the “Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king” part.

Not the corruption by the One Ring or the Uruk-hai pin cushion part.

Just boosting that I got laid off two weeks ago. Any leads on remote jobs in writing, editing, publishing, teaching, or adjacent work are deeply appreciated. Also always open to freelance!

Mushroom that feels like me job hunting for the algo.
A mushroom cap spread out and cracked on sunny grass.
It’s pretty clear that my partner loves me because she always thinks my hair looks good, even when it objectively does not.
As far as I can tell, the only way to find someone to follow is if you already know their exact social web handle. But there's no easy way to know what anyone's handle is because that information isn't available via your newsletter subscription or most people's about pages.
One of the things I find particularly bewildering about these new features is that it seems impossible to find any specific accounts? I'm currently subscribed to at least 4 Ghost newsletters but as far as I can tell there's no easy way to follow any of them on the Ghost social web.
Does anybody here use the new social web stuff in Ghost 6.0? What do you like about it?
I'm not really sure I see the point of it all but then again I didn't care about Substack Notes or any of that stuff either.

Colleen and I were at Books Inc. at the same time-- she predated me, and she was there for years after I left.

I'm genuinely gutted to hear they cut her role with the B&N purchase. She deserves better from a company she gave so many years to.
Book pals, help out a bookseller in need. My friend Colleen has been in painful chemo and the cancer has recently spread. Cancer (and capitalism) have taken her job as Books Inc ended her remote marketing job when BN took over. Please boost and/or donate if you can. www.gofundme.com/f/colleen-ca...

I think it’s hilarious that I started seeing the “women don’t like the vehicle” memes before I saw the article, and my immediate impulse was to add a picture of a Cybertruck to one of those repost chains
Still don’t want to go to the eye doctor but I know I’m getting old because I just got a little excited by the idea of getting progressive lenses

I couldn't remember the name Cybertruck so I called it a T150 Sad Man Teeny Peen Edition
Obviously the best way to make your podcast into a hit is to talk constantly about how nobody listens to it
Step one is probably making a podcast that audiences actually want to listen to.
Currently listening to an old bonus ep of The Adventure Zone with guest DM Brennan Lee Mulligan, and I’m thinking how all I really want as a podcaster is to make the kind of show that makes other podcasters want to invite me on their shows as a guest.

Roberts has always felt that the suggestion that white people might discriminate on the basis of race is a profound moral injustice, much greater than black people being denied the right to vote bsky.app/profile/jayw...
Everything about John Roberts's approach to the Voting Rights Act makes sense when you remember that John Roberts has has always been hostile to the Voting Rights Act, never believed it was appropriate, and has spent most of his 45-year legal career working to hollow it out.
One of the Biggest Cases of the Supreme Court’s Term Is John Roberts’ Decadeslong Pet Project
If there’s one thing the Roberts court has been consistent on, it’s this.

I'm pretty sure Jamelle has noted this before but the project of American conservatism is above all else to maintain and strengthen social hierarchies. Higher castes oppressing lower castes is fine, even desirable. Lower castes making higher castes uncomfortable in the slightest is abominable.
roberts’s constitution allows for racial discrimination as long as you don’t say you’re racially discriminating, because in a classic bit of racecraft, roberts’s constitution forbids acknowledging race but has no particular issue with racism.

Well. I have a cup of coffee and I have a book and I have some snacks. I have a partner who I love, who loves me, who I get to come home to. I have healthy, good-hearted children. And the air is clear the way it only ever is the day after a hard rain. Things are, for now, okay.
I miss when social media was fun.
