When it comes to arcade games like pinball, there’s the stereotype of a young man at the controls — cue "Pinball Wizard" by The Who.

But a Eugene chapter of an international pinball league is flipping the narrative.

Belles & Chimes Eugene fosters a welcoming space for pinball lovers

Belles & Chimes is an international network of women and gender minority pinball leagues. The leagues started in 2013 as a safe space for women to play pinball together. Now, there are more than 100 chapters around the world, including the one in Eugene.

In the ‘80s and ‘90s, LGBTQ periodicals and magazines provided some of the first publishing opportunities for gay and lesbian writers. They were one of the few windows into a community that was often overlooked by mainstream media, including in Eugene.
