earlier today someone showed me a picture of their baby and said "that's not even AI that's just what she looks like" and I am still thinking about the implications of that statement
Americans don't have enough solidarity to recommend you for a white collar job, they certainly don't have solidarity enough for a general strike!

Why no general strike?

Please ask how long you are willing to strike from your current job? Are you an at-will employee? How much savings do you currently have?

My students will be watching "Sleep Dealer" for class next week to kick off our discussion of technology, borders, and labor. I also have them reading Petra Molnar's report, "Technological Testing Grounds," which examines how public-private partnerships set the stage for what López narrates below.
The persistent practice of differentiation—of making the Other a kind of enemy threat to exclude from the nation—demonstrates how geopolitical borders emerge from military logics, from enacting an inequality of force that favors an existing political order.

The border today is and is made through sociotechnical arrangements centering data in the regulation of racial difference.

Hey y'all! We are planning on doing a 24-hour charity stream on November 8th to raise money for New Avenues for Youth, an organization that helps queer and unhoused youth. We're looking for other community members/creators to join us for ~hour-ish on the stream!

If you're interested DM us!

Silence is complicity
As Palestinians cling to a fragile ceasefire after suffering horrific genocide, I ask those who remained silent and complicit for the last two years—was it worth it?

Was it worth it to know this is how history, your children, your descendants, will remember you?

People are homeless because they can’t afford rent.

Because capitalism wrings out every piece of productivity from people while just barely maintaining their survival so they can continue to work.

Because suffering on the streets is a threat to make you go clock in.

It’s not a personal failure.

This thread is super interesting and I really had no idea about the popularity of XBox being minimal compared to PlayStation and does actually speak to the success of the Microsoft marketing team for convincing us all it was an actual competitor.
With all the Xbox news there's been a lot of discussion about the inevitable death of Xbox, and in a lot of these discussions both in essay and online, there's a lot of reverence for when Xbox was good, the 360, where they were so powerful they managed to match Sony's worst performing console.

Normalizing being on video for work was a mistake.
Also, if an employee does that training, the company may have a clause that they remain at the company for x amount of months or pay it back.

It's a way to keep people in low-paying jobs because you "paid" for a "certification".
