You can easily say that descendants of Italian, Irish and Jewish immigrants to America today face radically less levels of systemic discrimination than their ancestors did in the 1800’s without being like “and actually that discrimination never even existed”. First of all, your great-great-grandparents names *were not changed* at Ellis Island. No one there had the authority to do that.
