Yellow–blue wash straight from the Ukrainian flag - is it mimicking Ukraine’s flag to sell a “heroic resistance” narrative? The Irrawaddy isn't interviewing Twan Mrat Naing - it is giving him a profile and platforming him. Editorial/aesthetic sympathy instead of scrutiny. #ArakanArmy #Myanmar
I am not sure how i missed this. Trailer in the article. Anyone watched the whole film?

Arakan Army controls the route. BGB controls the return.

15 Rohingya reached St Martin’s in July. A month later, after being told to prepare for family pickup at Teknaf, they were pushed back across the water.

“Arakan Army hate the Rohingyas the most.”

Bangladesh’s Principal Staff Officer Lt Gen S M Kamrul Hassan said this at a Dhaka seminar, calling the AA the most hostile among Myanmar’s 3 stakeholders - the junta, NUG, and AA - & accusing it of drug and arms-running, abductions & maritime insecurity.
If the report is true, the Arakan Army's reconstruction efforts have serious political & humanitarian motivations and implications:

The AA, accused of massacring that village, is now rebuilding it & splitting surviving families into separate houses. Why? #Rohingya

A video from Sittwe shows Rohingya girls - heads covered, hands on their hearts - singing the Arakan anthem before an audience of Rohingya men, some mirroring the gesture. It’s unprecedented. I have never seen anything like it. substack.com/profile/7095...

#Myanmar’s army + BGP didn’t just kill & expel Rohingya in 2017, they tried their best to erase them.

New UN report shows homes, mosques + farms razed, BGP bases built on stolen land with corporate help.

Safe return? Not without restitution & justice. Link:

Calls for migrants to ‘learn English’ are a smokescreen. This isn’t about language at all. it’s about racism and exclusion. Stand with migrants.
When they say ‘English to a high standard’, do they mean like in this graffiti that my children and I once had to walk past?

Pepsi, KFC and other corporate brands are hiring in #Myanmar. They can only do so by having made deals with the junta. I would never blame the youth for taking these positions for it’s been 4.5 years of dictatorship and austerity. I do blame everyone in the Global North profiting from this, though.

I wish the Global North would look at #Myanmar less as an exemple of deterrence, than with the understanding that “we” are also responsible for Myanmar citizens’ suffering: we watch and we let it happen and then it’s politics as usual. But it shouldn’t be. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
