I was going to link to a National Forest Service page in a story, saw the page had a header with Trump-spec nonsense blaming the government shutdown on "Radical Left Democrats" and opted for the Wikipedia page about this forest. I don't inform my readers when I point them to unhinged propaganda.
Can you get LAX to keep 24R in operation that day?
And yet the Washington Post can't be bothered to put too much effort into covering D.C.-area politics.
I didn't take that opportunity on my last connection through ORD and felt bad about it afterwards.
I actually look forward to the light+sound show overhead in the tunnel between B and C.
Didn't see that or an equivalent at T1 tonight.
Cardinal rule of connecting though #ORD: Make sure your layover includes time to pick up food at Tortas Frontera.
The T1 location of Tortas Frontera, with people waiting for their order. A pilot is picking one up at the counter.
I also got to take the wheel of a battery-electric fire truck--easily the heaviest vehicle I have ever driven--for a few laps around a training area by Appleton's airport. So this day basically allowed me to live in a few pages of Richard Scarry's Busytown.
Every time I saw a postal worker in our neighborhood this summer, I kept thinking that they deserved trucks with air conditioning a long time ago.
For those of you wondering about the delayed rollout of those duckface USPS trucks: Oshkosh CEO John Pfeifer said they've now shipped "thousands" (I'm waiting on an exact number from their PR folks) that are in service in most states. I haven't seen any in operation in D.C. or Virginia yet, though.
I was wondering if I'd see you here.
Visited Oshkosh Corp.'s offices in Oshkosh, WI, (the company covered my airfare and lodging) and briefly drove two interesting EVs: one of the first USPS NGDV trucks and a Volterra ZSL garbage truck. The former had more pick-up than I counted on, the second was much quieter than I expected.
The Next-Generation Delivery Vehicle has that duckface profile to ensure somebody can stand upright in the back. View from the driver's seat, showing a simple instrument panel without a touchscreen. The McNeilus Volterra ZSL refuse truck, in a simple white paint job. The label on the side says:
"Advanced Safety Features
Optimized Visibility
100% Electric" The driver's-seat view, with a joystick to control the arm that picks up trash containers.
This is a good look at one of the most important issues in my state. For folks unaware of Virginia's YOLO campaign-finance laws: Companies can give unlimited donations direct to candidates here, so a politician may give up non-trivial amounts of money to oppose data centers.
Went to the DC exurbs to write about a growing political trend — citizens who don’t want more data centers, and are looking for politicians who’ll help.

Locally they’re getting help from both parties. At higher level, Rs are resolutely pro-data center and Ds are conflicted. t.co/Ir0QW8FUey

To be fair, some of that cursing was editing-driven.
Once again begging PR types to trust that if a freelancer has a phone number in their e-mail signature, LinkedIn, business cards, etc., it is not a desk-only line because this is not the 20th century. Y'all already have my "best number"! There is no other, top-secret set of digits I will give out.
Timed it right to enjoy some character-building New England weather.
I appreciate that the T finally replaced the 1970s-vintage rolling stock on the Orange Line, but why do these new trains have to beep every second when they're stopped at a station? It sounds like I'm in an ER.
Less of a connection to the U.S. in particular, but I wouldn't veto that
Happy Fiorello La Guardia Day to all who celebrate!
name an italian more worthy of an american holiday than columbus
Watched Firefox for the first time in this century, probably in 40 years, and realized I'd forgotten how much of that Clint Eastwood Cold War flick involves the Moscow Metro. There's always a transit angle!

At what point will our media ask about Trump’s obvious mental decline? He’s so far gone that he does not remember he was president in January 6, 2021
Won the EWR lottery today--"won" meaning that while ATC and a runway closure delayed my flight to Newark for 3+ hours, they also held up the flight from there for almost two, both flights were two gates apart, and my checked bag got from plane to plane in seven minutes. (Respect to EWR rampers.)
