Assessment type. Films, records, books, that Sort Of Thing. Will write for Scampi Fries, or cash with which to buy them. I’m not like this because I’m in Van Halen, I’m in Van Halen because I’m like this. Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/jKip

JW: Night Moves (1975). Arthur Penn’s California neo-noir with a superb lead performance from Gene Hackman. He plays an ex-footballer turned private detective. Hired by faded Hollywood actress to find her runaway daughter, he finds more than he bargained for, including smuggling and murder. #Filmsky
Poster for Arthur Penn’s Night Moves (1975). A black background with the film’s title in red. The byline is ‘maybe he would find the girl…maybe he would find himself’. An illustration shows Harry Moseby (Gene Hackman) against an underwater scene, with a diver searching the depths, as Harry’s investigator license sinks into the water. A Yellow Sea plane flies above.

This is devastating.

I think for my age, he’s *the* generational genius of pop music. That he’s a unique vocal talent, on the level of Marvin Gaye, goes without saying, but his colossal musical intelligence is what made him D’Angelo. A unique musical intellect.

My BFI Classic on The Beatles’ film A Hard Day’s Night is available to preorder now. Here’s the story behind it. I love the cover - inspired by the film poster and a key theme in the book: the power of television in transmitting the Beatles to the world. samiraahmed.blog/why-i-wrote-...

this is sociopathic behaviour and I think we need to treat it as such! just because something has become easy to do doesn't mean it has become less creepy, or more acceptable!
You have my attention.

Just going to assume the next Kraftwerk album is called Dynamische Preisgestaltung, or something.
A screenshot, pinched from @stevejvickers.bsky.social, showing ludicrously high ticket prices for a Kraftwerk gig.

Van Morrison’s entire oeuvre, right there.
Thinking about this today, have always been obsessed with it.
A black and white picture of a picturesque isolated home. Hiraeth n. (Welsh) A spiritual longing for a home which maybe never was. Nostalgia for ancient places to which we cannot return. It is the echo of the lost places of our soul’s past and our grief for them. It’s in the wind, and the rocks, and the waves. It is nowhere and it is everywhere.
