Ha, i just realized that there's a video with the exact machine I'm remembering, made by a coworker who is sadly no longer with us:

It was wild. Just terrifying to work on too, so many ways to make a really expensive mistake.

Kind of plasticky, kind of burny, but not like burning plastic? Just a really distinct smell. The heads on those things spin really fast, 18000 RPM, (yes that's the right number of zeros) so it's kind of like a dentist drill. Any loose oxide just comes right off.

There's also this one, which is only an Eastern Canadian thing, so i haven't tried it:

Petapixel showcases an old BBC film about Gandolfi Cameras, UK-made large format wonders. Despite Petapixel's condescending tone, the 10 minute film is fun to watch.

Dear Toronto: We will stop scoring runs this game if Doug Ford agrees to stop tearing out bike lanes. Until then, the runs will continue.

Oh wow. We had a bunch of 2" tape at MuchMusic, and you could *smell* it as they dubbed it onto more modern formats.
