My uncle, who died in 2015, had been a police/crime #author starting in the 1980s and was at me for years that I could, and should, write #fiction. When I finally tried it, he told me he liked what he’d read and that I had to keep at it. His encouragement was what I needed.😁

Good morning #5amWritersClub,

I am determined to figure out what gets our little community interacting with each other! Today's question:

What made you decide it was time to start writing a book? Was it recent, or a lifelong desire?
When royal governors shuttered colonial legislatures, “patriot” legislators took to meeting in taverns, etc, which led to 1774’s creation of a “Continental Congress.”

The House Democrats should just turn up to Capitol Hill - even if no GOP do. If they are locked out, they should convene elsewhere.
Maybe Dems should just go ahead and have their own session in the House. Swear in Grijalva on their own. Just make up their own rules. Appear to be doing something.

This year, while checking newspaper covers across 5 European countries (UK, Spain, Italy, France & Germany - last l via Google translate as I don’t speak 🇫🇷/🇩🇪) & U.S., I’ve noticed newspapers (at least center-to-left ones) in places that lived thru fascism are best at calling out US dictatorial turn.
My mother died of lung cancer 10 years ago today.

I will never forget how, days before, about to drive away from a supermarket, I saw a 20-something mom light up after she got out of a nearby car. (Her kid was in a car seat.)

I thought: Oh, if you could see my mom right now, you wouldn’t do that.
They’re also afraid of Manhattan.
It’s amazing how so many Trump supporters who have never left the United States know so much about the day to day life and culture of people in countries all over the world.
In 1865, there was talk - including from General Sherman - that a new capital not associated with slavery be built in the interior and DC abandoned.

Never happened, obviously.

Now, in 2025, it’s worth asking: If neo-Confederate Trump destroys the White House, is DC really the capital any longer?
The White House, is the people’s house. Any renovation should be done with respect for and the benefit of future generations, not to idolize one man.

Clearly not the majority in this “Congress.” Like a Roman emperor, he could, we see now, also just move “the court” to his “Capri” if he wants to. About that, non-entity courtier Johnson will state on a “politics” Sunday show, “I don’t know the details…” while he is seated on the Mar-a-Lago patio.

Hell, I’d be shocked if he bothered to find out whether Melania was still in the East Wing before he destroyed it.

This might be the most ridiculous thing the Reagan Foundation has done (and it's a long list).

Reagan made and the WH recorded those addresses while in office; they are presidential records, in the public domain; no one needs to seek the private foundation's permission.

It has no "legal options."
Do we actually think the semi-literate 34x felonious fascist neo-Confederate has even heard of John Locke, much less read him?
Locke, Second Treatise of Government:
“Many” mourn though “some” say.

In case you were looking for a sentence that is a perfect example of what is wrong with modern “journalism.”
An obituary for the East Wing, home to first ladies, military aides, presidential cats and White House Super Bowl parties, demolished this week after 123 years to make room for Trump's grand ballroom. Many mourn though some say a change is needed. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/u...

The government doesn't get to decide if your protest is funny, and the government officials can’t punish you for making them the punchline.

May the Force and the First Amendment be with you.
Man detained for protesting National Guard with Star Wars song sues
Sam O’Hara filmed National Guard troops in D.C. while playing “The Imperial March” on his phone. He never thought his protest would lead to his being detained.

Whatever Trump voters know or don’t is actually beside the point here.

What is the point is he is a U.S. senator, and if he actually thinks Trump is not a fascist the senator either slept through or cut that “Poli Sci 101” lecture back in college.

The White House is asking people not to share pictures of the East Wing because it’s even worse today.

Excellent summary, Nicholas

Trump and the GOP are desperate to play it down to MAGAverse
What, if anything, did the No Kings protests accomplish?

I've seen that pop up in everything from genuine inquiry to sneering dismissal. For anyone asking or facing that question, here's an answer.

Everything isn't all fixed, of course. But the protests accomplished at least these seven things:

Ignore all laws about altering historic properties ✅
Pave over Rose Garden for tacky Mar-A-Lardo Patio ✅
Demolish East Wing after lying that "It won't interfere with the current building. It'll be near it but not touching it" ✅
Build gaudy $250M Ballroom as public struggles financially ✅

It’s pronounced “moo-lin-yon” and it’s a disgusting racial slur.

I’m exhausted by now by the seemingly bottomless pit of Italian-American “fascisti” who plainly imagine their ancestors arrived on the Mayflower and that Mussolini was too fu*king moderate.

Above all, “satire” is about ridiculing the powerful.

So a president cannot be “satirical” of “ordinary” people; presidents are only satirized… by “ordinary” political cartoonists, TV hosts, etc.

Put another way, it isn’t “satire” to show SS guards being “goofy” with prisoners in death camps.
Satire: "the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues."

So the defense of the video is that he is calling millions of Americans stupid or full of vice?
Q: What does it say that president released a video of him pooping on the American people?

MIKE JOHNSON: You can argue he's probably the most effective person who has ever used social media. He's using satire to make a point. He's not calling for the murder of his political opponents.
Honestly, Trump could order the razing of the entire White House and construction of a new building on the site modeled on the Kremlin crossed with Mar-a-Lago and who in the current “government” would stop him from doing it?
Seeing the White House torn apart is really emblematic of the times we’re in
Guy has some nerve. I’m old enough to remember the story of Mario looking at a run for president. Having given a speech somewhere like “Arkansas,” a local said there weren’t many “Cu-woh-mohs” in the town.
I often wonder what these silly adults are thinking. It’s like they have grown so distant from their own teen years that they have forgotten what it is to be a teen. If any adult had told me at “15” I was NOT allowed to read some book, I would have gone out of my way to get a copy.

Let the Trumpers have the Confederate flag.

That’s the one they really want to wave.
Telling moment: I was walking back from the rally, but a couple miles from it, carrying nothing but my gigantic American flag. An eight year old on his bike sees me with it and yells "No Kings!!" with absolute conviction.

My friends, they have lost the flag.
