Okay Bluesky, here's a reminder of who I am and what I'm about. I'm the author of a memoir about working as an Uber driver after my divorce and how the gig economy lures in and exploits vulnerable people.

On some Friday nights, I do a ride-along thread where I post about people I'm meeting.
Yellow and black cover of Drive: Scraping by in Uber's America, by Jonathan Rigsby. "This gripping read forces readers to finally see gig workers all around them, as well as to recognize how the middle class has become the Middle Precariat." -Alissa Quart, author of Bootstrapped and Squeezed

The horrors are less traumatizing when you fill the hole in your heart with a burrito.

These people are fighting for their God-given right to pour gritty antacids in people's eyes, and here you are, raining on their parade.

If it can't even draw a diagram of a hand correctly, how do they expect it to diagnose something as complex as pain? It's bad enough that most OB/GYNs don't provide proper pain management for IUD insertion. Baking the racism into a technology product that replaces thinking is irresponsible.

On TikTok there's a woman taking an anatomy course where the professor assigned a textbook that they "wrote" using generative AI, and virtually every diagram in the book is incorrect.

There are muscles that don't exist and diagrams that are completely wrong.

Gen AI has no place in education.

I'm not sure American conservatism is compatible with continued American democracy. These people are not committed to any principle except violence against anyone outside their narrow in-group.

I'm trying to get back to reading news on actual websites instead of letting algorithms serve it to me. The algorithm seems to have picked up a tendency to serve me news that makes me angry and sad all the time, and I want to be informed without being subjected to that.
ridetrips.bsky.social
They've been one of the ones I've kept. I've read them for years.
ridetrips.bsky.social
I like to read a pretty wide variety of news sources, but I've been culling them over the last year as more and more of them fail to meet the moment. At this point, my media diet of getting sparse.

Bluesky, what news are you reading?

Congratulations to the winner of the next King of Iron Fist tournament: drone operator on another continent.
ridetrips.bsky.social
Tekken has always been a little silly, what with a bear, a cyborg with a sword, and various supernatural entities competing.

Did I just watch someone call in a strafing run from an attack helicopter and then shoot their opponent with an RPG?

The rules of the Iron Fist tournament seem very lax.

ICE went after rideshare drivers at O’Hare today, according to statement from Illinois Drivers Alliance

A sad skill we all need to acquire. You have to learn to recognize the videos that are too sharp and too blurry at the same time, to see the shifting edges and blurred transitions.

If for no other reason, you'll need it to help protect your aging parents.

I genuinely cannot express how vital it is that you train yourself to recognize AI-generated images and videos for your own good because none of this is going away and many, many people are counting on you to fall for their shit

Bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll with a quarter water. Plain bagel with a schmear is the bagel order.

Everything bagels are just plain bagels that let you throw a handful of birdseed on the ground while you eat them.
erinbiba.bsky.social
Ok we're having some confusion so let's get this ironed out:

Bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel is the NYC order.

Obviously if you are wanting have this the CORRECT way, the TRADITIONAL WAY, you are ordering *TAYLOR HAM*, egg, and, cheese on a KAISER ROLL and you are IN NEW JERSEY.
ehahnmd.bsky.social
Kaiser roll is also the traditional vehicle. A bagel is a modification.

It's weird to think that like the fall of the postwar order has "Obama makes fun of Trump at a WH correspondent dinner" as a causal event

Like 97 percent of why he’s obsessed with winning the Nobel peace prize is that Obama won it

Isn't he in treatment for cancer? I can understand him staying out of the public eye.

Obama, on the other hand...

You won't get it back, but you can visit the museum I would donate all of these to.

"I've read seven books by Brandon Sanderson, and I can't find anything new or exciting. Is fantasy dying?"

My brother in Christ, have you tried leaving the S section of the shelves?
ridetrips.bsky.social
I think "never prosecute people for crimes" would set a worse precedent, but what do I know?

For the record, I would have preordered the deluxe edition of this game.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

A meditation on the grief of this moment. Worth the read.

I’m tired of chaos. I’m dying for order. A machine that’s functioning. It’s parts working in symphony with each other.

Everything in its right place.

Nothing is now. No one is doing the job, let alone doing it well. I feel like there’s something they’re all in on. Something drives them.
