New intro post time!

I’m Didi. I’m a mid-thirties Canadian, I use she/her pronouns, definitely on the aroace spectrum, anti-capitalist, anti-genAI, and like to think of myself as a writer. I have a dog named Kida who’s my whole world (yes, named after the Atlantis character). Also a casual gamer.
A Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever laying on her back on a grey couch. There’s a pink crocheted blanket at her feet. She is giving her best “puppy eyes” to the camera for some belly rubs.
now onto fourth and final, sobbing about it because Armour #wip
A digital sketch of Nil from Horizon Forbidden West. Red sketchy lines are under black lineart of his facial features.
the lines are finally fucking DONE and now COLOUR and then [REDACTED]
spent the day boiling turkey bones for leftover turkey pot pie and working on liiiiiines. #wip
Unfinished digital lineart of Talanah from Horizon Forbidden West.

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.
the art struggle between ‘don’t be lazy’ and ‘you hate the carapace anyway just get rid of it’
trying to decide if this art is good enough the way it is or if i should try to include at least one transition despite attempts looking wonky as fuck… harrumph.
animals are not as easy to draw as they were when i was a kid, the fuck
Sadly couldn’t attend due to capitalism but glad to see you back!
i have no money why are you doing this to me 😭
sketched some shit and now am trying to turn those stick figure scribbles into something incredibly niche that only i will enjoy. #wip
A close-up sketch of Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West. There are low-opacity red sketch lines behind partial black lineart of her face. She has a determined grin.

me when everything else is going wrong but ONE thing goes right

but also, this is solas's fault

that said, i do find myself missing life drawing. using a human figure right before your eyes as a model taught me soooo much more than pose reference photos, especially on how to effectively use negative space for proportions. alas.
i also have this weird feeling with digital art where in my mind i’m constrained to realism whereas in trad art i can take more risks with style. probably because with trad art i grew up teaching myself how to draw from disney and other cartoons, but i find it more liberating than digital that way.
sketching some stuff in a new sketchbook and… yeah. i am so, so much more comfortable with trad art than digital. proportions don’t feel wonky. i can see the whole thing in real time and control what’s happening.

… but i dont have layers i can toggle for visibility and detail work over the sketch 😭
SUCCESS.

from kittleskittle’s pokemon au series: erend’s aggron, nil’s “gogoat” (zoroark with illusion), aloy’s rapidash (but i only have shiny), nil’s zoroark, varl’s ursaluna, vanasha’s salazzle, talanah’s talonflame, and petra’s tinkaton!

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.
the fact that this gets boiled down to “ugh another female character ruined by straight romance” just a) furthers biphobia, and b) denigrates talanah’s own agency and growth.

sorry fkfkfkf i probably should make my own thread for this but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
she’s now in a place where love is a possibility and heartbreak isn’t world-ending. she tells aloy she wasn’t sure love was in the cards for her with “that’s what i used to say.” this puts her in a convenient place to move forward with someone who is also ready to take that leap. again, parallel.
of course that resets his entire grieving process and puts whatever he and talanah may have had on the back burner. tbh i think by both of them stepping back, they handled it like mature adults and with respect for each other.

ultimately, amadis was a plot device to give talanah development.
mhm. talanah has lost loved ones, but she has answers and closure and their names marked for history. amadis had questions and a gaping hole and she took a leaf from aloy’s book and helped him find what he needed. he was also looking for a grave/to lay her to rest. no one expected her to be alive.
ursaluna secured for varl. but now the question is… basic or shiny?

"but it's everywhere now so we just have to accept it's the new reality" motherfucker we can just stop putting it everywhere! we did it with asbestos and CFCs and lead-based paint or petrol and make-up with arsenic in it! if everyone is using something and it's bad, we can choose to stop!
"anti-AI people should just learn more about it" motherfucker I know so much about it, that's why I'm anti-AI
“i’m not erasing bi or pan people” *proceeds to erase bi & pan people*

🤔

maybe i just have a vastly different read on talanah’s story in hfw than this person but i never saw her as throwing everything away for a man. i won’t go into it but i don’t think horizon is ever pushing only 1 love forever.
