“Not going to be great” is quite the understatement by Fox here.
Tweet by FactPost (@factpostnews) reading: “Fox: The tariffs, 10% for lumber, 25% for cabinets, vanities, upholstered furniture. On January 1st, the tariff for cabinets and vanities increase to 50%, all the rest of the furniture to 30%. The cost of building materials has increased 34%. There is a concern that this is not going to be great for the home buying industry.” Below is a Fox Business screenshot showing a reporter in a lumber workshop with the headline “New tariffs on furniture & lumber take effect.”

I got Jim Bolger.I'm not a fully fledged member of the Murphia but with a Kennedy Mum close enough to recognise him as a kindred spirit when I interviewed him.

Unlike David Lange who failed to turn the monetarist tide of Roger Douglas Jim Bolger stopped Ruth Richardson when he realised what she was working toward.A fascinating man who history will be kind to.

They don't seem to dent their polling significantly.Fortunately.

Now there's a dress code to support.Earlier this year the ODT magazine ran a piece on the many and varied, and spectacular, robes the Chinese civil service wore back in the days of Emperors.Ttey was amazing.

Hard to see a good resolution there.I think the other two potential coalition partners need to up their game and try and get the numbers for govt going between them.

The grumpy right vote often takes a holiday with Uncle Winston when the Nats are being useless. My great dread is facing yet another "Peters holds the balance of power" election next year.

Wednesday's Chorus: Going for Growth. House price growth. Without warning, consultation or a Governor, the RBNZ loosens LVR restrictions to allow more debt to pump up house values, which it says are sustainable; Nicola Willis & landlords are happy #nzpol thekaka.substack.com/p/wednesdays...

Agree with Sacha below. Māni is always offering a masterclass. One caveat, though, and this is absolutely not for Māni or Mihi or the other journalists skilled in Te Ao Māori me Te Ao Pākeha politics.

More waves crashing on the sandcastles of hopium. I'm famously pessimistic, but the data continues to surprise me to the downside. It's relentless. We've not seen anything like this for 45 years. Compounding, mutually reinforcing, job-killing dynamics. (1/2)

Interesting to see the Kremlin-financed erstwhile Tenet Media's Lauren Chen still focussed on New Zealand through the promotion of anti-Māori frames which gel with ascendant, & already well-established domestic, & transnational white supremacist, & far-right narratives. Cui bono? #nzpol

Let's flip Luxon's local body candidate snark and ask ourselves who would vote for him as mayor, a councillor or community board member?

You probably didn't notice that the archived Public Address has been down for several weeks – something was sucking up the CPU on the hosting server. But it's back, thanks to the kind folk at CactusLab – who, by the way, also had a great 25th birthday party last week. publicaddress.net

50 years ago today thousands crammed into Parliament grounds in Wellington at the end of a 1100 km historic Māori land march from Te Hāpua in the far north led by Ngāpuhi leader Whina Cooper to protest against the continuing loss of Māori land. #TeRōpūOTeMatakite 🏳️

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Revelling in all the "What I'm gonna do's" from Mayors old and new who actually have exactly one vote like all other Councillors.
