I would NEVER trust MLB ownership to agree to a system that would result in players making more if they can help it. They want to crush the union and pay players less, period.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Yup, the main problem is the disparity in revenue and I’m not sure how you fix that in such a way that you don’t just enrich the assholes.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Yeah, this is the problem.

There doesn’t seem to be enough of a path for lower payroll teams to win the WS. In the regular season, yes. October seems trickier.

I’m very skeptical a cap fixes this, though. Just not sure what does.

So it's definitely part of the story here. What the Dodgers have bought themselves was is the highest possible ceiling, but they've been doing that for awhile. What's changed is they seemed to have figured out a way to crack the winning in the postseason code. But we'll see, this one isn't over yet.
rdtopp.bsky.social
More MLB teams have won the World Series this century (16) than Super Bowls (12) or NBA titles (11) so I don't think this is really based in reality. It's a common perception, though.
rdtopp.bsky.social
You're making the playoffs out to be something magical that they're not.
rdtopp.bsky.social
It "works" in that in enriches the owners and people think payroll means destiny, but they're wrong.

You're just gonna make rich assholes richer.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Because baseball isn't nearly as broken as people who assume payroll is destiny think it is. There is a very well established path for lower payroll teams to compete and make the playoffs. We've proven that again and again. The problem is that last step. Not sure how to fix that.
rdtopp.bsky.social
No need to wait....because it will make rich asshole billionaires who hold taxpayers hostage for stadiums even richer and won't do nearly as much as the vast majority of people assume to "fix" baseball.
rdtopp.bsky.social
As frustrated as I am with some of the decisions that were made in games 1/2, they absolutely were not the story.

The Dodgers billion dollar rotation has been worth every penny so far and I don't think there is an offense in the game (other than maybe theirs) that would be doing much here.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Yeah, haven’t had much to cheer, but we’re trying.

How's the crowd? Seems like on TV they are ready to explode, but constant disappointment taking its toll.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Very hard to work counts when they’re in the zone as much as these guys have been.
rdtopp.bsky.social
The A Bullpen will continue to pitch until the results improve.

Then they will continue to pitch.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Freddy did the job tonight. The offense hasn’t done its.

#Brewers game #30 (20-9) of the year.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Seattle with that rotation, the BD and Julio is like what the #Brewers could have been in the postseason if they’d ever lined up healthy MVP Yelich, Hiura hadn’t flopped after 2019 and Burnes/Woody/Freddy. They just couldn’t quite line it up that way.
rdtopp.bsky.social
Feels like Bauers is more likely be in left than Yelich?

Time to dust off this bit…

Tonight’s #PFABBM number is a 1.

Abner was rough Monday, has gone 3 IP in 3 days. Ashby has pitched 3 of 5 days and has been shaky. Patrick is gassed after 4 of 6. Koenig went multiple yesterday. Megill hasn’t pitched back to back since August.

BATTERS HEAR OUR PRAYER!
rdtopp.bsky.social
Days off don’t magically fix everything. They help, but you still have to find ways around it.
rdtopp.bsky.social
If you’re going to refuse to trust Myers and Anderson to pitch in games that are remotely close unless you’re forced then you’re pretty well cooked from the jump. Very little chance they make let alone win the WS without getting important innings from them. So you’re preordaing defeat by doing this.
rdtopp.bsky.social
There is a big difference between “punting” a game and staying away from a few of your best RP who are gassed, please try and understand that. Tyler Alexander, Elvin Rodriguez and Easton McGee aren’t on the roster! Gasser is, but no one wants him in there. Stop trying to straw man this thing.
