Who at new GDC keeps making trailers with the worst things from day-to-day news? The first trailer was about an abduction, now we're doing a missile? Y'all a for-profit making millions off of ripping of game devs through sheer inertia from when the show was relevant, come on, sheesh.

Two quick random fixes after hours tonight, dopresskit.com properly serves files again and the @thehabibis.show handle got revalidated. I also got the little music box tinkering project mostly working & my soldering is back up to par.

I think I've earned 30 minutes of Destiny.

As for devcom congress, I'd argue that it has great value but on its own its a hard sell - but combined with a gamescom ticket it suddenly becomes a pre-show prep-event that can really boost your time at what is effectively one of the better shows globally money-for-access.

No, the accessibility concerns are almost identical - it's just that one is effectively useless for the overwhelming majority of attendees, and the other is generally considered a reasonable investment with good return.

DICE is more expensive, but it also is worth the money: it's a small, focused conference, highly effective & perfect for mid- to larger size studios looking for connections, funding, and opportunities. For a small studio, it's less effective but great for networking "ahead".

After 39 hours of play I finished Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Aside from a few puzzles that took me a long time to figure out I enjoyed the game because it was very clear in what I had to do and where I had to go. I do realize that with only these 39 hours I also missed a lot of the game. 🎮

I will say that nothing is more baffling to me than the industry standard that we teach developers about publishing by having them listen to talks and panels by publishers. It's like fiscal responsibility taught by a loan shark, privacy taught by Google, or human rights taught by Israel.

a thing that's always really bothered me about indie game world from the beginning is it's entirely dependent on connections and you have no idea if what anyone is telling you is true or not because there are very few people who care about your interests. cold take: unions and co-ops are necessary!
