Walt Disney World employees more people than the entire American coal industry.

Trying to wrap my head around the idea of someone who knew about Reed hearing about the Reverse Peristalsis Painters and assuming they had nothing to do with Reed.
rainsurname.bsky.social
Absolutely dying over someone saying one of the most famous Reedie stunts ever didn't overlap much with Reed.

I was also involved with Earth First in the early 1990s.

I only recently discovered this as well, and Did Not Like It.

Lol, not me. She blocked me over something so stupid I mocked her for it from my cat account, which she also blocked.

I have had several people get mad at me today for trying to correct that myth.

It's very funny that you're being so patronizing, when your reading comprehension is so poor that you think I said that I did exhaustive research
rainsurname.bsky.social
I guess you didn't actually read that then, huh?
rainsurname.bsky.social
Mine is the reading based on the Smithsonian's exhaustive research into the subject, which did not find any actual evidence of immigration officials changing names, but found plenty of evidence of them correcting names that were incorrect on ship manifests.

Have you seen the manifest from the ship that he traveled on?

That is where most of the mistakes happened. The people at Ellis Island actually fixed a lot of them.
rainsurname.bsky.social
Everyone who worked at Ellis Island spoke at least 3 languages. They were able to cover dozens of them on any given day.

The people filling out the ship manifests in Europe did not, & the manifests were what the Ellis Island people used. They actually corrected a lot of them.

“dressing up as animals is insulting, this is war” is kind of a particularly bad complaint for Portland because they’ve been doing black bloc streetfighting shit for like, years at this point and the feds clearly aren’t scared to come back. might as well give “embarrass them” a shot.

Donald Trump says that Barack Obama could have gotten the October 7th hostages released during his presidency, raising new concerns about Joe Biden's memory and cognition.

winning elections is pretty much the only way to solidify the gains of social movements though. and winning them often enough that they can't be immediately repealed.

Researchers pointed a satellite dish at the sky for 3 years and monitored what unencrypted data it picked up. The results were shocking: They obtained thousands of T-Mobile users' phone calls and texts, military and law enforcement secrets, much more: www.wired.com/story/satell... 🧵👇
Satellites Are Leaking the World’s Secrets: Calls, Texts, Military and Corporate Data
With just $800 in basic equipment, researchers found a stunning variety of data—including thousands of T-Mobile users’ calls and texts and even US military communications—sent by satellites unencrypte...

You sound like you already suffered brain damage.

Over 1000 cyclists are killed in the US every year, & about two-thirds of them are caused by cars.

The people at Ellis Island went by what was on the ship manifests, which were usually written by people who did not speak the passenger's language, whereas the immigration officials spoke dozens. They actually corrected a lot of them, but many immigrants were afraid to speak up about the mistakes.

Alas, I needed my father to co-sign.

He acted like I was asking him to buy me a house, when it was my money. He said filling it with students to pay the mortgage was the stupidest thing he'd ever heard.

Because he knew better than the person whose actual JOB was helping students pay for school
rainsurname.bsky.social
When I think about how I could have had a 4BR house near 26th & Clinton for under 50K...

My father reneged on his promise to pay for school. Reed's financial aid director said they'd just take all my savings unless I put it towards a house, which I could fill with students & sell upon graduating.
