it's been shoved into so many things that people genuinely see it on the same level as wordart or clip art: what's the big deal? it's making me a little picture that I can put in my newsletter. look, it made my granddaughter a princess! how pretty

having returned to the workplace and being around the general public recently has shown me that there are a vast number of people who are completely unaware of the problems with using generative AI, or even the fact that there are problems with it

Entire communities in Western AK have been displaced by the remnants of Typhoon Halong.

Please donate what you can/share if you cannot. Many of these places are off the road system & rely on subsistence resources, which have now been disrupted or washed away. alaskacf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/c...
Also rip to all those doddle drawn in the margins of my very long storyboard files. I woll be surprised if i can ever open those again tbh
Rip to all those sketches whose originals are buried 20 layers deep in a file named after the date it was drawn
Man, really regretting all the art i did i cant easily find anymore bc i left the other place

Well now, would you look at that?

A massive study of NEARLY 300,000 people in the United States found that receiving an updated 2024-2025 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine REDUCED people’s risk of severe disease AND death in ALL age groups, REGARDLESS of immunity from prior infection or vaccination.

It may no longer be Indigenous Peoples' Day but this is when and where your support truly matters. We have several Native communities devastated by flooding, families have literally lost everything.

Western Alaska was hit hard by the recent storms. Houses floated away in Kipnuk, houses flipped over, people lost everything from the flooding that came with the storms. Please donate if you can. This group has a long history of supporting AK communities.

And here it is! The article I wrote for Truthout regarding #IndigenousPeoplesDay and the assault on birthright citizenship and tribal sovereignty.

I am seeing a lot of people reposting Lakota Man today bc it's Indigenous Peoples Day. A reminder that he is not well liked amongst many (most?) Natives on social media. Many of us blocked him a long time ago. Some of the reasons why are in this article.

Who is LakotaMan, the user behind one of the most popular Native American accounts on X?
John Martin is adored by white X users—but infamous among Native and Indigenous communities.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have developed a cancer vaccine that has shown STUNNING results, PREVENTING up to 88% of MULTIPLE aggressive cancers by harnessing dual-pathway nanoparticles that train the immune system to recognize and destroy tumor cells. In some cases, it COMPLETELY prevented metastasis.

Time to post one of my favorite old illustrations. :)
I created it for a group show resolving around botanical visuals. During this time I read a lot about the ISS and how they grew plants in there to test botanical behavior, which also sparked dreams about deep space travels.

LLMs are doubly deceptive. Most people think that they can ask it a question and get an answer. The majority of the rest think that you can ask an LLM a question and it will return what an answer might look like, statistically.

But it's actually even worse. It doesn't "read" the prompt; it guesses.

I really recommend browsing a reddit called "Is this AI?" for this purpose. people post questionable images and commenters weigh in on their validity, but are required to provide specifics as to their reasoning. once you start seeing the signs, it gets easier and easier over time

I genuinely cannot express how vital it is that you train yourself to recognize AI-generated images and videos for your own good because none of this is going away and many, many people are counting on you to fall for their shit
Also my cat who thinks she's a rabbit has eatten my drosera down to the nub about 3 times now and it has legit grown back to normal every time. I also propogate these and spider plants to give as presents because they are so easy.

Also having great luck using self watering pots with them.
Rehiblitation guide if you want to attempt it.

Personally I haven't had luck with saracenia or dionaea (flytraps), and didnt want living plants in my fridge so I only have Drosera x 'Hercules' and a Nepenthes x 'St Gaya' atm. I want a pinguicula and another kind of drosera eventually tho.
