On reflection I guess Gold Runner is sorta relevant to California, but they could’ve gone with something better
A friend recommended Golden Gate since this service covers more of ATSF’s alignment

Hi! I wanted to showcase my friend Nader's campaign. He's a Palestinian in danger because of the occupation and survival resources have been extremely hard to secure. Here's the link to his campaign!

Also kinda rare for national railroads to stick to just one paint scheme for long

But also we still have Bloody Noses and Warbonnets running in 2025, there will be plenty of variety for a while

Awful and important.

Obviously we all need to fight against AI - but NOT by recklessly accusing each other without evidence. (This is the art-equivalent of those deluded people who think anyone who uses em-dashes - which I've overused for decades! - must somehow be using AI.)
I got accused of posting AI the other day because I posted a drawing that

1. Used a slight off-white instead of pure white
2. Had an “AI facial expression” (I have no idea what that means)
3. Had an “AI font” (it was my hand lettering, as it has appeared in my work for decades)
"This artwork has a yellow tint!" is the "This text uses em dashes!" of AI artwork -- artists have a long history of using it to add authenticity to images intended to evoke vintage imagery or to add mood or warmth to an image, but a bunch of people now think it's a sure "tell" of Generative AI.

Just saw a very cool piece of art shared in a Discord server, and I wanted to share it too, but the link was to Twitter. So I found the same artist in bsky, and they haven't shared the piece here, so I ain't sharing that art after all. Artists: do better.

hard pill to swallow for some technologists/futurist tech fetishists out there that the most efficient, greenest form of land transportation was invented 200 years ago and it just keeps reinventing itself

Dammit now I can’t use “Slob a tailpipe” as an insult with these idiots

So... after what happened at the border today, Clover and I are essentially homeless.

I've got no choice but to change my GoFundMe while we look for housing. Anything you can spare will help.

🎵 And up in the smokey clouds
You can almost recognize
The ghost of a crazy engineer
With firey cinder eyes 🎵

Happy Halloween!! 👻🚂

My first thread here was about poppet valves if you’re curious

bsky.app/profile/rail...
Let's talk about poppet valve steam locos
...and how Caprotti is a misleading description
(Thread/ALT text included)

Poppet valves are possibly the last core innovation to the conventional steam locomotive, following slide and piston valves, but they're MUCH older than you'd think
for continuous high rpm compared to RC poppets.
>2/2
The motion of OC poppets compared to piston valves made it fairly simple to convert existing locomotives. FSSD A/A1 gear also incorporates benefits of Young and Bulleid gear. Downside is equipment is harder to access for maintenance or repairs when required, and OC inherently is less suitable
>1/2
Almost

Franklin A has oscillating cam poppet valve, evident by the rods around the crosshead. You could theoretically actuate the valves with regular Walschaerts or Baker gear; can’t do that with rotary cam

Ontario Bill 60 an omnibus that gives the province more power over municipalities, removes tenant protections, makes it impossible to build new bike lanes, and more.

All this horrible stuff with a small handful of good things. Call and email your MPs to stop this bill.
