A friend and I passed a save file back and forth for @peloriemate.net’s hoshi wo miru hito patch.

Popular consensus says that Virtual Hydlide is the “worst” game I’ve rolled credits on, but both are far more enjoyable than Hoshi wo Miru Hito. D: (i’d also say that VH is Good, Actually?)

as someone who sucks at knowing about music production himself: I think it might be the way the drums are mixed? like, the scooped mids give the guitar a “thrumming” quality, but the kick and snare are super… idk? crispy? on all three of those albums, and that might be adding to the “humidity”

this is not to diminish the hard work that goes into getting that score, it is a !!sick accomplishment!!

we just all need to know what the real top of the mountain looks like so we can recognize it when we get there! high-scoring is both competition and group effort, after all

I also think that, if you’re pushing for “record” high scores, part of that experience is research to know what the true pinnacle is.

A part of being “the best” is knowing who is purported to be better than you, so you can learn and maybe surpass them. That said…

I think part of it that weirds me out a little as an American is that we also have a tendency to be… we’ll politely say “incurious” about other countries’ gaming history. Like, I wouldn’t submit my Teki Paki score that’s a full million points ahead of their #1 and call myself a record-holder, since
