Growing up queer in West Virginia, I heard the most horrible things about queerness from adults outside my family, very much in public. It’s very much not new.

Getting more ads in so many places saying, “frustrated that your AI investment isn’t working for your business? Add this other AI tool to make AI actually work!”

Not looking forward to when this house of cards implodes.

🔥🔥

It doesn’t lessen the pain of it at the time, but it’s a lovely thing to recognize later. 💚

Great book that explains that “evangelical types“ were products of a movement that was explicitly segregationist and had ideological roots in the confederacy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pow...

I am mentally practicing some scripts for ways to address such things if I hear them again so people who talk like that will at least experience some discomfort about speaking that way openly, but I don’t think people who do this ever went away. They just kept it to private spaces.

Re: the heinous things leaked from these group chats, look, I heard a conversation in a public space a few days ago that was SO racist it turned my stomach.

If people say such things in public, you KNOW they’re saying much worse things in private.

Might take Friday off to work on my kids’ Halloween costumes.

Oh, and one of the first things that happened after I went on meds was that I got out of a horribly abusive relationship. Because without meds, my memories of the things that had happened were so disconnected from each other. As soon as I could put them together, I got out.

One of the most dangerous misconceptions of ADHD is that it’s a cute disorder of minor inconveniences.

Meanwhile, I can make systems to cope with my forgetfulness. But rejection sensitivity dysphoria will never not feel like dying. Sometimes my impulsiveness grips me and I do something I shouldn’t.

That shit HAS to be so hard on your body! (Sending many good vibes for as little RSD as possible!)

🫂 It is a hard, hard journey, because we constantly get so many messages from society at large that our fundamental way of being is bad and wrong. But we are more safe within ourselves for sure once we learn to work *with* our brains instead of against them.

(And I told Younger Child the other day that he is not allowed to ever own a gun, sorry buddy, just so many reasons why that’s a hell no! And then I gave him some cardboard and he made himself a katana, shield, arm guard, and dagger. 😂)

We build systems for the things we can, try to appreciate the good (I don’t think many brains are as creative as an ADHD brain, because of the way thoughts ping-pong around and bump into each other), and try to find self-forgiveness when something slips through the cracks.

We are more likely to die by accident or through self-harm.

Our lifespans are statistically shorter than neurotypical people.

THESE are the things that keep me up at night, especially as I raise a child who also has ADHD.

Some fucking ring-tapper whose daddy wrote a letter to West Point to get him in and thinks he’s all that with his butter bars.

Only a few days until I make my Books & Brews debut at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora. Giant sentient books and beers not guaranteed to appear. Alas.
Photo of the entrance to Two Brothers Roundhouse. Two cartoon figures are entering, one a giant foamy beer stein, and the other a red book. Both have silly cartoony smiley faces. The beer is giving a thumbs up. Also the logo over the door to the building is replaced by a thumbnail of Bonk the glitchy robot cat. Text says Books and Brews, Saturday October 18, 12-4 pm, 205 N. Broadway, Aurora IL

So apparently not everyone knew that some ADHD generics do not appear to function identically?

Just in case it’s helpful, here is a list of things that work for me.

This list is SPECIFIC to Vyvanse only.

lol, I DID offer, and if anyone is going to be “weird” (complimentary) I’m always glad it’s y’all.

Ooh, I wouldn’t mind going ☺️ at someone today, hehehe.

They don’t bother me nearly enough to get rid of permanently, and sometimes I’m just fine with them, so a swap situation now and then sounds ideal, honestly. 😂

Oh, if anyone wants to borrow an enby’s breasts every now and then, you know who to call!

lol, as much as I love plotting a fight scene, I tend to slack on SUPER detailed worldbuilding, which some sci-fi readers complain about.

*insert giant shrug here*

This is why more writers is good, different books are going to hit the sweet spot with different readers, and that’s great, actually!
