also just realised my phone has been autocorrecting Zack to Zach this entire time just going to kms no worries

100%! but I think the Greens (and Zach, and posters here) are smart enough to know that the Greens are not going to be in Government, they don't *need* to be coherent

they need to win members, and votes, and from the very early indicators, their current approach seems to be doing *okay* at that
queerash.bsky.social
that's probably fair, though then I guess it raises the question of what is better; genuinely not having that deeper tradition or just pretending you don't in order to win votes...and whether that actually makes any difference to voters
queerash.bsky.social
"he changes his political beliefs to pursue his own promotion and obtain power"

okay but enough about Starmer what about Polanski etc.
queerash.bsky.social
"I just don't think he has a coherent policy platform or the courage of his supposed left-wing convictions"

okay but enough about Starmer, what do you think of Polanski?
queerash.bsky.social
that's sort of my point; he doesn't have an intellectual tradition (beyond self-interested populism) but that's a poor criticism when there is a substantial bloc crying out for a politician to say those things!

Labour aren't even *saying* those things anymore, never mind doing them
queerash.bsky.social
I agree but I'm not sure that comes from a deep intellectual tradition as opposed to political pragmatism, and they absolutely didn't *advertise* Blair as an intellectual or ideologue

the 1997 manifesto even included the line: New Labour is a party of ideas and ideals but not of outdated ideology
queerash.bsky.social
it's actually fine to just say you dislike a politician's vibes, that is a fair criticism
queerash.bsky.social
I'm not even a Zach Polanski stan but describing him as an empty suit when Starmer is our current Prime Minister just feels like a very odd criticism
queerash.bsky.social
Especially for political leaders, and even more so for someone who even in an optimistic scenario is not going to be the next PM
queerash.bsky.social
He thought about it but I'm not sure he ever really governed with a particular intellectual tradition in mind, is my point
queerash.bsky.social
...how many modern politicians are actually deeply rooted in any kind of intellectual tradition? or indeed ever have been

most *leaders* aren't. even "successful" ones like Blair, and the advantage of e.g. the Greens is that they don't need a coherent platform (yet), they *can* work on vibes
dmk1793.bsky.social
Something I find striking about Zach Polanski is how - unlike the vast majority of those who played a key role in Corbynism - his politics are so clearly not rooted in any kind of deeper analysis or intellectual tradition. It's all just a surface-level synthesis of 2010s left-wing slogans and memes.

I originally quite liked them but now have been entirely reverse polarised by Gavin Newsom
