It's cool that the owner of DSLReports.com (where I first got my start as a reporter covering tech and telecom 25 years ago) just got bored, gave up, and let the site collapse and decay, with zero regard for years of archived writing or a close community that had developed over decades

Wonder Boys is a good quirky film from 2000. Michael Douglas is an English Professor trying to deal with his wife leaving him, the arrival of his editor who has been waiting for his second book for years, and the various other problems. Bombed at the box office unfortunately. Good soundtrack.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

the over-arching implications are sad, but I can't say the death of CBS at the hands of weird nepopbabies and trust fund brunchlords will lack entertainment value
This is Olivia Reingold trying to get back at John Oliver for the blistering takedown they did of the Free Press.

It’s actually worse than you’re thinking.

Idaho state motto (new): Let it be contagious
South Carolina schools recently sent home unvaccinated kids to stem a growing measles outbreak. It turned out 5 of them were infected and, if they'd been at school, could've unwittingly spread it to their classmates for days.

That kind of precaution is now illegal in Idaho.
