If @albertandp.ca was hella savvy, they'd yoink this phrase and incorporate it into their branding at a 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 scale, such that no one could even think about the phrase without immediately thinking ANDP. The UCP and separatists alike would be helpless.

Strong and Free

Both Smith and Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally faced questions at the news conference about whether the inclusion of the motto was politically motivated, with reporters noting the slogan is used on the official United Conservative Party website.

"It's our provincial motto. Let's not be shy about it," Nally said.

"It's also in the [national] anthem, and let's remember that when the King of England was here a few months ago doing the throne speech in Ottawa, he mentioned the words strong and free. So there is no political ideology that owns the corner on strong and free."

Smith said the motto is "neutral language," and that it was odd that the slogan wasn't already being used on the plates.

The UCP wants to replace "Wild Rose Country" with "Strong and Free" on provincial license plates.

The minister responsible said caucus, alone, decided on the change. And that the move was "clearly non-partisan".

The Alberta provincial government is mandating standard license plates that contravene the Alberta provincial government's own guidelines for personalized license plates.

All personalized licence plate configurations must meet Government of Alberta standards. A personalized licence plate configuration must not contain or reference:

• political or social messaging, opinion, affliation, organization, figures, or dignitaries, including negative message or meaning with respect to government

Smith has had a change of heart since she was Wildrose Party leader in 2014 when she slammed the PCs plan to remove “Wild Rose Country" from licence plates.
"I also joked that it was great to have advertising for the political party I represented at that time on the back of every licence plate.”
