Tonight, someone in our buy nothing group, a neighbor, needed a tent because they are becoming homeless. And that is not okay. I made us give up one of our two tents that we never use. And it feels totally insufficient and dumb, phenomenally.dumb

oh I recall — people like Sarah Palin made fun of scientific research grants on “fruitflies” without knowing their importance in biomedical research including multiple Nobel Prizes over the years

I just checked and this is real. It's on Border Patrol's official Instagram (I don't see it on Facebook) and is being celebrated by Nazis on Twitter, as you can see in the screenshot.

The clip is just 13 seconds long too, so it's a very intentional thing. We've got a Nazi government.
Twitter account: Uncensored @HmanQuotes1945: Official border patrol Facebook page is posting with the banned lyrics of Michael Jackson's song.

For those unfamiliar -- the term is more common w far right movements in Europe than here -- "remigrate" implies not deporting migrants here illegally, which DHS does. It implies pushing legal migrants, naturalized citizens, even people born here to give up US citizenship and go 'home' [sic]

you don't, of course

this circumstance was adventitious -- I was working on something else when I saw the post and thought "this can't be right" and typed in a couple of prompts as a lark

I keep going back to the Take Care* clause, which bore so much weight for so long, and thus upheld our country's vision of self-rule

it has been decimated by POTUS with the Supreme Court's help & Congress's complicity

I fear that too few of us (or whoever's left) will know the right prompts

It's too powerful -- mainly because it can push out millions of lies that are hard to distinguish from the truth

yes, but because of AI I was able to retrieve the raw data, create a graph of the distribution, decompose the distribution into two populations, and save both graphs in about 45 seconds

it's not right
prasad.bsky.social
once again I'm begging the people who write these sorts of headlines to learn a crumb of statistics

"average" = mean, median, or mode (usually mean)
in all cases "average" depends on distribution
all assume a single mode
most things aren't unimodal

P.S. I hate how easy it was to make this graph

Judicial warrants can still be served.

yes, that's a new variable we have to contend with, but being in the same area and demographic, I also see a lot of indulgence on this and other matters that wouldn't fly in my parents's house and could never fly in mine as a parent

There is no conceivable argument that these ships, even if we assume they were carrying narcotics, could not be dealt with in some other way. I think we can just drop the caveats and say: This is mass murder.
chrislhayes.bsky.social
Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

I'm genuinely frightened of the ease with which this poison took over our country, including these young people who chose to get involved in politics

I never saw anything like this as a kid growing up in Tennessee

easy to say "it's their parents" but I suspect that's a big part of it too

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

Greg Bovino, Kristi Noem, and DHS need to answer for their unchecked attacks on Chicago residents.

ICE is an out-of-control danger to our peaceful communities.

The images from the Sun-Times today speak for themselves.

Literally nothing coming from the Pentagon, DHS, or DOJ should be considered credible unless backed up by an independent source outside of government. (This, for the record, is a huge problem!)
