What? → LA County's Jail Closure Team will present on their plan to Close Men's Central Jail. Join us to rally and give public comment.
Why? → 38 people have died in LASD custody this year alone. Closing Men's Central Jail is a matter of life and death. Yet, thousands of our loved ones remain incarcerated there - more than half without a conviction.

HOW DID WE GET HERE? (EXTREMELY ABRIDGED)
2017
JusticeLA was launched in 2017 as an abolitionist coalition of individuals, experts, and community organizations fighting the creation of new jails in LA.
2020
LA County Board of Supervisors Unanimously Vote to close Men's Central Jail, a deadly and decrepit facility.
2020
Supervisors directed the LA County Sheriff's Department and the Office of Diversion and Reentry to launch a workgroup to come up with a plan for closing MCJ within a year.
2021
On March 30th, 2021 the Men's Central Jail (MCJ) Closure Report outlined a roadmap for closure within 18-24 months.
LA County has not taken the bold steps to implement the evidence-based will of the people.
2025
At least 232 people have died in LASD custody since the board voted to close MCJ.
2025
On October 21st, the County's Jail Closure Team will be presenting at the Board of Supervisors meeting.

Someone asked me couple weeks ago if I used AI to create book cover art for a new project. Mind you, this person has known me, as a multimedia artist, for ~26 years. Ofc I was fking insulted & shocked. That's the shittiest thing you can say to an artist who's spent a lifetime developing their craft.
