Well, I'm here, now. I'm glad to see that many of my favorite people (and cats) are here too, although I haven't searched for my entire list of previous follows from the bird site yet. Still also known as @[email protected] on Mastodon and u/PhD_Frog on Reddit.

Yes! I'm so happy to see the frog being rescued from dishonor as a symbol of the far right! 🐸

If you're going to a No Kings march instead of a witty sign that might elicit a chuckle maybe you could just carry an American flag

There are some pretty heavy philosophical/theological issues around repentance, forgiveness, and rehabilitation after a person has done wrong. I have to give Christie credit for having a conscience, at least.
phdfrog.bsky.social
Christie seems to genuinely repent his previous enablement of Trump, though. He ran as the anti-Trump GOP candidate in 2023, ripped Trump to shreds in his speeches, and refused to endorse him.

Is that his granddaughter? 😱 Remember this is the guy who said on TV that he wanted to f*** his own daughter, but I guess Ivanka is too old for him nowadays.

Wow. With each sign I thought "surely that's all," but the signs kept coming and every one was dead-on. They didn't miss a thing. And the silent presentation was far more effective, and dramatic, than a chant.

This is a really well done—I hope it catches on: A silent roadside protest staged over the weekend in Westerville, Ohio, and posted to the Facebook page of the Westerville Progressive Alliance.

Speaking as not-a-Christian myself, I think the problem is not political disagreements, but the folks who think God's grace is supposed to cover kidnapping children and killing innocent people in fishing boats.

I actually thought the imagery of the lone frog standing up to the armed gestapo was more effective; like the tank man in Tiananmen square.

There's a $2 gizmo you can buy in any sewing/crafts store called a "seam ripper" that you can use to remove the velcro.

Having looked at my own lab results lately, I can tell you that "exceptional" results mean "abnormal". E.g. my platelet count is "exceptional" because it's well *below* where it ought to be.

Only 1.5 bathrooms for a 5-bedroom house? But the real deal killer is that it has no AC -- in Missouri, which has the kind of climate where you really need it. And, well, it's in Missouri. 😒

In 2016 I thought that a lot of Trump voters were low-information establishment Republicans who foolishly thought Trump was one too, or who thought the establishment would rein him in. Nobody could possibly have been fooled like that last time.

I've wondered why it's taken so many people this long to realize that the America we used to know is doomed. I've felt we've been teetering on the edge since 2016 and that we definitely went over it last November. Trump made no secret of what he planned to do to us, and people voted for that. 😭

Pharmaceutical companies try to soak US consumers and their health insurance companies for their R&D costs while folks in other countries pay something closer to the manufacturing cost for the same drugs, sometimes a 10x difference.
phdfrog.bsky.social
You're blaming the wrong villain here; health insurance costs to consumers are high because the costs they have to cover are high. Pharmaceuticals are a case in point: drugs cost way more in the US because prices are not so regulated as in other countries.

Next thing you know, Trump will be trying to hang Mike Pence. 🤷

An actual word, not a place name: pasty, the meat pie. Also the place name Houghton, properly pronounced HO-ton; a lot of tourists think the first syllable rhymes with either "cough" or "rough", and I've also heard HAW-ton and HOO-ton.

And, no matter how emotionally motivating Beck may personally find his new program, if he wants to improve his national ranking over last year, I think he needs music that helps him make a stronger impression on both judges and audience, unless he can pull some quad jumps out of a hat to compensate.

You'd think that Jason Brown would want to end his competitive career with a more memorable program that says "I am the best skater in the world and don't you forget it!"
phdfrog.bsky.social
I understand that these guys want to skate to music that has speaks to them personally and that they find motivating enough to skate to every day. But introspective, inward-directed programs with music that doesn't hold the audience's attention often don't work in a competitive setting.
