I appreciate this post and the op, and others like it. I listen to lots of new stuff. It’s good to have people helping you ask yourself “why” and to think about other ways.

You can’t have every aesthetic experience. There is joy and community in connecting over new things. And, things you miss.

Y’all I am by no means saying you should stop discovering new music 😭 I’m simply suggesting being intentional about which albums you listen to. Don’t just let an algorithm make a playlist for you. Buy a damn cd/tape/vinyl. Listen so much that you want the t shirt

So, like, anyway, I have a particular relationship to music given my neurodivergence and mental health etc., and it doesn't make it any less meaningful or valid to me. The point that Eleanor made is not lost on me and it's not *Wrong*, my hope was just to add a layer of nuance from my perspective.

The woman ended up having her house foreclosed on and she came back into care. She said she would do it all over again because she needed to experience what it was like to have a place of her own. People's journeys get to be their own.

I attended a training on interpersonal violence once and the social worker/trainer told an anecdote about when they were practicing at a shelter and they tried to convince a woman not to buy a house. It was 2008 and they were right that it was a shit loan..........

There's pros and cons to how individuals style their relationship to music. To flatten the relationship people are "supposed" to have to music is very limiting.

I believe there are no inherently right or wrong ways to experience music except maybe to try to make sure it's meaningful to *you*.

I've tried searching so many ways but I can't find it. Do any of you fine folks have that meme of the student looking over another student's shoulder during a quiz and it's labeled with the former being nazi germany, the latter being america, and the school material being eugenics?
