Trump admin has frozen or cancelled $28 b for projects, almost all in Dem districts. Small amount of frozen funds in GOP districts are in predominately Dem states (CA, OR, WA, CO, MN, IL, NY, MD), or in predominately Dem cities (St Louis, Atlanta, Greenville) www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I haven't had full fenders on a bike in over a decade and finally put some on my mountain bike, which is usually my go-to inclement weather bike.

I'd forgotten just how good real fenders do at keeping you dry! Between them and good rain gear, I stayed nice and comfy for 45 minutes out in the rain!

Emmer: "We call it the 'Hate America' rally because you'll see the hate for America all over this thing when they show up. The rumor is that they can't end this shutdown because this small but very violent and vocal group is the only one that's happy about this."

With the average new car at $50,000, let's look at the real costs of "freedom":

✅ Decades of debt
✅ Social isolation for every trip
✅ A leading cause of death & injury

Car dependency is a financially and socially crippling system, not a choice.

This is literally an oil pipeline and not only do we massively subsidize it with our tax dollars but it is our leading cause of disabling injury and premature death.

We are not an especially clever people.

Absolutely beautiful weather for the bike commute this evening. I guess I could sit on my butt in a car on the freeway instead, but this seems quite a bit better to me.

About 20 minutes later for me. They'd moved off the trail on the right by the time I came through.

I wonder how close timing-wise we passed through - that's exactly where I saw them 😂😂

Nothing quite gets the heart racing during the morning bike commute like easily cruising down a wooded trail and suddenly having a deer burst out of the woods right in front of you and hearing at least one more still in the woods maybe running toward you too. We all kept separated in the end.

Just saw a car ad that tried to sell being stuck in traffic as quality family time. I’ve never felt more sure that we’re near the collapse of car culture.

I think about this a lot. 99% of people walking in the Twin Cities at any given time are walking their dogs or walking to their car.

Having lived through 25 years of Minneapolis arguments over transit, cats, and bikes, I have to say as (now) a visitor that as imperfect as the solutions have been, there are a lot of ways to get around this city now. BUT, and this is a big one…

I really feel that Trader Joe's is one of the few places that correctly sizes their parking lots, and it's just a shock to most people that it isn't 4x oversized

One of these days we'll do an episode on why the parking lots at Trader Joe's are small. tl;dr: the stores themselves are small compared to other grocery stores which helps them find locations where they don't have to supply massive amounts of parking as mandated by local parking requirements.

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back
Tom Morello tweets: "Fascinating that all those “don’t tread on me” posers and their AR-15’s are nowhere to be seen and government tyranny is instead being opposed by a guy in an inflatable frog suit."

Someone named Manny replies: "@grok
why do some people say Tom Morello and band mates are RAGE FOR THE MACHINE and not against ?"

"Depends on who you ask" framing is one of the most grating tics in modern political journalism. Objective reality exists and your job is to describe it.

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

We're apparently a communist hellscape, and we don't want the whole US to look that way, I assume. Nevermind we're at the top of basically ever quality of life metric for the states....

Having Republicans be so openly pro-fascist (because that’s the opposite of anti-fascist) is WILD

The campaign against “antifa” is about establishing a beachhead for further attacks on speech and assembly rights. We see that today in the effort to preemptively label No Kings protesters as “terrorists.”

Health insurance shouldn't exist, and healthcare is what you provide to anyone needing healthcare... WTF is hard about any of this 🤷‍♂️
