But the lobby said Badenoch's speech was a triumphant success? I don't understand?

Woah! So Labour's position really is, 'telling us off for breaching human rights undermines the case for human rights'? Proper Trumpian stuff from Labour's answer to Suella Braverman.

An imperfect peace is always preferable to war.

I hope this ceasefire holds. I’m glad that the final Israeli hostages have been freed. I hope the ceasefire provides relief to the people of Gaza. The genocide is over!

Now the world must hold both Israel and Hamas to account for their war crimes.

Two thoughts:
1. The only symbol worse than one that looks uncannily like a Germanic iron cross is one that looks like a swastika.
2. Consciously defining yourself as “left”, “centre” or “right” in your name or slogans is a failure of political communication. These terms mean little to most voters.

Nothing makes you appreciate immigration quite like being admitted into hospital.

Over my five days, I met NHS medical staff from the UK, Romania, India, Jamaica, the Philippines, the Middle East and no doubt many other parts of the world.

Our NHS couldn’t survive without immigrants!

I’m finally back home after spending five days in hospital. I am feeling a lot better now. Thank you to all the NHS doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants and other staff who looked after me. Each and every one of them are angels. I am extremely grateful to them. ☺️🏥💙

New post just out:

The relationship between Russia and the European radical right goes well beyond Reform's Nathan Gill being bribed.

In this post I trace the history back to the 1990s and look at the threat it poses now.

In the UK we have Keir -island of strangers- Starmer, whose government is driving right wing anti immigrant and asylum seeker policies

In Spain, Pedro Sánchez is not only celebrating diversity, they're embracing and speaking positively about immigrants

"The latest polls tells us 56% now believe it was mistake to leave the European Union"

Hands up if you are one of the 56% 🙋‍♂️

Genuinely outstanding news, even if this news story can apparently only report on it by cramming it full of every objection imaginable. People should be able to drink as late as they please. And by 'people' I mean me.

The Conservative Party is a dying party.

Badenoch’s speech was average at best. She did nothing to address the threats from both the Lib Dems and Reform UK.

The Tories’ complete lack of awareness of the consequences of austerity, Brexit, COVID mismanagement and Truss’ budget is astounding. #CPC25

Why does what Badenoch say get so much attention. Why does everyone respond? It’s just fiction. LibDems are currently level-pegging with the Tories in the polls and everyone is beating the Tories in council by-elections. Their own members didn’t even attend their conference.
