They’re too tuned out to pay attention to politics to the extent we do. I’ve always paid attention. There’s a reason the Democratic Party’s the party of the college educated. That won’t win elections if the GOP holds on to its working class appeal. Democrats never should’ve let it get to this point.

How am I supposed to feel enthused about a party of “good Democrats” this comfortable writing off half of the electorate? The party’s already out of touch due to campaign financing, media ownership, legal corruption, etc. Adding hostility to voters is a fine way to lose AGAIN. It’s all just excuses.

There’s no excuse for clinging to this argument now, as democracy itself is threatened with extinction. Frankly it makes me wonder if there’s even hope for a party so out of touch with voters that they turn to a fascist clown, TWICE.

Those arguments don’t help Democrats, do they? The reality is that high levels of immigration are so destabilizing that Putin uses the issue as a weapon in a number of ways - boosting the issue through his allies in the West, as well as sending waves of actual immigrants.

But that doesn’t mean voters were happy about open borders, for a number of reasons. Maybe the best way to describe it is “a sense of chaos” - the kind of thing that fuels the rise of strongmen worldwide.

Recently the GOP was refusing to hand over one of its most popular issues. Pro-immigration Republicans were explicitly rejected by MAGA.

Before the Trump era, it’s more complicated. Both parties are aware of immigration’s benefits for the economy as a whole as well as specific business interests.

I have GOP relatives. There’s been simmering anger over immigration and open borders since the Reagan era. Either Democrats were out of touch or they chose to ignore the growing rage. There’s something wrong with a political culture that ignores explosive issues until a demagogue picks them up.
