Nothing happened in 2008 because people still believed in institutions back then. That was neoliberalism's last big play. Bail out wallstreet. But now? People are feral now. It's going to be pitchfork time. People don't even believe in germs anymore. We're angry peasants and they're in the palace.
Feel bad for all the regular people who get hurt when this happens. But if 35 trillion gets wiped out because people figure out Chat GPT is useless and Nvidia is paying itself in Paddy's bucks, then it's not real. I know, stupid freshmen dorm theory, but still. It's all fake.
“Though technological innovation is undeniably reshaping industries and increasing productivity, there are good reasons to worry that the current rally may be setting the stage for another painful market correction,” writes Gita Gopinath in a guest essay
Imagine you're like 20 years old. Elon has been making big promises for around 15 years give or take. If you look at actual delivery on self driving cars, robots etc. He's just the dude who's been lying your entire adult life.
I'd bet not before 10 years. Guess we're looking at 2 things at least. 1. Attempt at launching crewed mission to mars. 2. Successfully making it to mars. (Time window too big.) I'd feel confident saying no crewed attempts within the next 10 years.
That's nothing. Bought my wife this AI Kama Sutra book on Amazon and we couldn't even get past page one without a 3 prosthetic limbs, a centaur, a ghost and a snorkel.
"Look back at the archives of history... the people who gave the real sick speeches... they would have been absolute lunatics if they weren't part of this bigger movement"
It's so funny that this argument is essentially: I can think of a bigger number than you.' What super man is 1 billion powerful? Well omni man is a billion billions powerful.
I'm assuming this is just all kayfabe anyhow. Can't imagine Kirkman really cares much other than building some heat online.
I subscribe to Ed and listen to his podcast, but I can see people not enjoying his delivery. If the dude actually reads some of the other sources shared with him: Bender, Guest, Blix, Narayanan & Kapoor etc then maybe he'll learn something. But yeah, opening with 'This guy sucks' feels bad faith.
It's hard to paint China as a bogey man when the UK is doing all the same bad stuff, but none of the good stuff. We have ethnic cleansing, draconian speech laws, mass surveillance etc. But also can't build a train station or prosecute billionaires.
Online is better when people are mad at Dems/Labour from the left. Even better when the left has something constructive to do. Things are bleak in the UK, but seeing The Greens gathering steam is exciting. I think there's no going back once people break away from the official Israel narrative.
I think it’s also a lot like the appeal of Ayn Rand to teenage boys and their lack of knowledge of pragmatism, or cooperation, or how the rest of the world works outside of their small universe; they want to actualize fantasies they came up with as little kids playing with action figures.
