I recall reading Mokyr's papers for the first time during my Master's program in Economic History. I was immediately captivated.

Something similar happened to me today in my class in Madrid. Most of my undergrad business students were familiar with Charlie Kirk; I hadn´t heard of him before.

What happened is terrible, and we took the opportunity to reflect on how bad political violence is nowadays.

Let’s not lose sight of the big picture. Appeasement won’t work. Instead of rushing to minimize short-term costs, we should stick to WTO principles and pursue a coordinated, proportional, multi-country retaliatory response against rule-breakers

Simulations with the KITE Model show a joint response would raise US costs by 34% vs. no retaliation—reaching ~60% of the effect of a global reaction.
