One issue with these is that Dr. Trowbridge is a complete nonentity most of the time
All these stories are so goddamned long. Not poorly paced or written, but like, damn Seabury, wringing pennies outta them words
Dude is always insulting people for no reason lol
KISS are one of the foundational pillars of butt rock but they didn't fully become butt rock until Ace left. He had a way of making a track feel....Alive

The self-titled Frehley album is one of the great panel van albums—I've always said it sounds like what would happen if a kid got Shazam'd into a rock star. Glad I got to see him live before he went.

One odd feature of these stories is when they feature a Foreigner villain they're often allowed to explain their (fairly reasonable) motives at length
The introduction warns the reader not to read these straight through in a go and I'm inclined to see the wisdom of this
He's not a terribly likable character, I must say. He's more smug than other detectives, but not as impressive.
Mon dieu! The American mind is so small, it cannot fit into it too many ideas, I think! And yet 10,000 bullheaded Americans are preferable to but one heathen, friend Trowbridge!
This thread has me resuming the Complete Jules de Grandin Vol 1 that is so conveniently free on youtube in a high quality audiobook. Grandin is a weird character, like if Poirot was prone to going on sneering reactionary rants when he was angry
I dunno bout this one, Dr. Jules de Grandin
51) "A Gamble in Souls" (WT Jan 1933)

An innocent man is sentenced to death, & a married young woman loves him; her husband (his brother) did the murder, but the law won't let her testify against him. Dr Grandin consults an Islamic mystic, who swaps the souls of the innocent man with the husband.
I have the opposite problem with women I just can't picture a bonnet
My dumbest trait as a reader is my brain often defaults to imagining guys 100+ years ago wearing top hats all the time
Estrogen could save Beavis but only the gallows could save Butt-Head

Day 59 of trying to be hired by Andrew Cuomo
A meme portraying Andrew Cuomo as Garfield and Zohran Mamdani as Heathcliff and their respective worldviews, there is a tiny picture of pundit Jennifer Rubin who once responded to a picture Andrew Cuomo posted by saying “the girls are eating their spaghetti and meatballs”
This was the first Seabury Quinn story I encountered after years of knowing him by reputation as the "guy who was more popular than Lovecraft who sucks" and it was very Shaq unfamiliar with your game meme

Yknow I may wind up giving some indie rock songs that I can endorse HMs but in the meantime the heart wants what it wants. But have no fear...ISC compliant prog is on the horizon

How the hell has Futurama been revived for two years? You'd never know, have not seen one single bit of chatter about it
Also stumped him with Carnacki, who is at least listed in his archives. Kind of curious how you'd arrive at Carnacki via his questions. When you're after a character like this he zeroes in on someone from Lovecraft or Dracula
I stumped him with Seabury Quinn's Jules De Grandin, which I think is a fair stumping. Has his own Wikipedia page!
He guessed wrong once but still kind of amazed he got this one
The Akinator genie correctly guessing Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap
The fact that people still argue about the implications and intentions of "Sweet Home Alabama" without fail every time it's brought up 50 years later makes it perhaps the greatest troll of all time
I don't think this is true to the specificities of ALF's sensual allure
Submission for an example of a story that might be Actually Unfilmable: "The Human Chair" by Edogawa Ranpo
I dislike the Weeknd in general but that "Blinding Lights" song in particular really grinds my gears. One of the most transparent attempts to make a Pop Song Everybody Likes and it worked! So boring
