Day 59 of trying to be hired by Andrew Cuomo
A meme portraying Andrew Cuomo as Garfield and Zohran Mamdani as Heathcliff and their respective worldviews, there is a tiny picture of pundit Jennifer Rubin who once responded to a picture Andrew Cuomo posted by saying “the girls are eating their spaghetti and meatballs”

This was the first Seabury Quinn story I encountered after years of knowing him by reputation as the "guy who was more popular than Lovecraft who sucks" and it was very Shaq unfamiliar with your game meme

"Mirror to the Sky" by Yes (2023, UK)
NKC: 👎
ISC: 👎

Yknow I may wind up giving some indie rock songs that I can endorse HMs but in the meantime the heart wants what it wants. But have no fear...ISC compliant prog is on the horizon

How the hell has Futurama been revived for two years? You'd never know, have not seen one single bit of chatter about it

Also stumped him with Carnacki, who is at least listed in his archives. Kind of curious how you'd arrive at Carnacki via his questions. When you're after a character like this he zeroes in on someone from Lovecraft or Dracula

I stumped him with Seabury Quinn's Jules De Grandin, which I think is a fair stumping. Has his own Wikipedia page!

He guessed wrong once but still kind of amazed he got this one
The Akinator genie correctly guessing Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap

The fact that people still argue about the implications and intentions of "Sweet Home Alabama" without fail every time it's brought up 50 years later makes it perhaps the greatest troll of all time

I don't think this is true to the specificities of ALF's sensual allure

I dislike the Weeknd in general but that "Blinding Lights" song in particular really grinds my gears. One of the most transparent attempts to make a Pop Song Everybody Likes and it worked! So boring

Bluesky people who start finger wagging about twitter users at the first opportunity are so annoying, man.

Bad Company is one of the fakest real rock bands and Foreigner is one of the realest fake rock bands

"Chale" by Sho Madjozi (2023, South Africa)
NKC: 👍
ISC: 👍

Tbh a stumbling block for me with a lot of pop and dance music I've sampled for this is that it isn't long enough. I like to hear a beat cover every nook and cranny of possibility. This has Frankenstein noises in it

I know that Lovecraft's antisocial prudery is much overstated but I find the idea that he would go to a bordello even casually extremely funny

Faith No More would not be my choice for the metal album that deserves to be in R4 (RIP Sepultura) however it is better than twinkling (I consider both of these 7/10 albums tbh)

I don't really "get" group chats, I feel like maybe you'd have to grow up with computers (which I didn't) for it to come natural to you.
onetrueposter.bsky.social
I cosign this sentiment as someone who has not participated in a group chat of any kind since Facebook in high-school

bluesky needs group chats so bad

"Members of better bands coming together to make more commercial music to make money" has always been the critical take on Bad Company. The median Serious Music Fan of decades past was absolutely not expected to listen to Bad Company! It's like the tweet wanted to say Led Zeppelin but chickened out

I've read music books from 40 years ago that use Bad Company as an example of the sort of rock music that made the 70s a less intersting decade for the genre Until Punk Came Along. They're like, one of the bands around which the concept of "butt rock" coalesced.

Saw a weird tweet earlier that used Bad Company as an example of the sort of band that serious-minded rock fans were expected to like before the internet exposed them to more diverse stuff around the globe. This is not my understanding of the place Bad Company holds in rock history

I just don't think she's the kind of broad-spectrum megastar a lot of people define her as. She's more like the biggest cult artist with the most well-off fanbase of all time.

People compare Taylor Swift to Marvel but I don't think it's accurate because you run into countless people in real life talking about Marvel, yes, even now, in the movies' flop era. In my experience the only people who will admit to liking Taylor Swift are those who self-define as Swifties
