You need to be Victorianmaxxing. You need to be going Edwardian mode. Can't really go wrong with this selection if chills and thrills and more than a century of remove is what you're after

I think if I'd had strong authority figures with terrible views in my life I'd probably share those views or would have well into adulthood, and been a more well-adjusted person. Without any I'm a miserable neurotic who's a little bad luck away from becoming a Red Guard

Seething as I look at all these reddit posts, oh of course pressing top menu twice works for all these other jabronis, but I guess I got one of the models where they wised up

Bought a Panasonic blu ray player from Wal Mart on the off chance I could locate a button hack that would allow me to bypass the fucking region lock and finally watch these Ghost Story for Christmas BDs and am having no luck

Absolutely dreading the vultures running with the circumstances, if the reporting is accurate. Horrible, horrible

This Rob Reiner news really bums me out. You can never tell which ones will really hit you. RIP Marty DiBergi.

😞 horrible

Hasn't been completely confirmed but it appears Rob Reiner might be dead

Listening to Elvis Costello's Trust. This is his most polished and polite album to this point and shaping up as a result to be my least favorite thus far. He shoulda kept up trying to demonstrate what a soulful white boy who appreciated black music he was like on Get Happy!, that as great

Adam becoming one of the premier political interviewers of our time may well be Nick Mullen's greatest joke
Scoop: Olivia Nuzzi sat for a podcast interview with Adam Friedland, set to be released this week

With the White Stripes I think it's less "they suck" sentiment and more this

One of the hosts followed me back on twitter at some point, is the kicker

I wrote a podcast an absurdly-prolix letter years ago about an extremely stupid topic as a joke and they read it on air and they've occasionally made reference to the pushback they got on their dislike for the topic it was on, and every time they do I'm torn as to whether I should reveal myself

Doing my own version of the conspiracies that Jim Morrison was a psyop sent by his father to discredit the counterculture but it's the Strokes sent by Big Music Magazine to destroy nu metal because society was becoming too twisted

"Is This It" really is one of the most apt album titles of all time (less a dig at the quality than the nature of the discussions people have about them)

The real Truth Nuke of all this is that The Strokes filled a need and that need was to have something to turn the tide away from nu metal

The Strokes to me are one of those bands who made one song so good ("Reptilia") that the rest of their work kinda sounds like shit in comparison
December 14, 2025 at 11:23 PM
I don't think the Strokes have ever quite settled comfortably into the canon since, though, they're still a byword for hype in a lot of quarters from what *I've* seen at least
December 14, 2025 at 11:06 PM
Of all the opinions I've ever encountered about the Strokes I think the rarest is "yes they actually are that good"
December 14, 2025 at 11:03 PM
I've always gotten the impression that The Strokes are pretty uniquely divisive even within the Indie Rock Guy crowd that I assume makes up the silent majority, I just don't think they have that Radiohead juice.

Is This It is basically the Elastica debut but not quite as fun

They'll do well of course but I think they have about as much chance of winning as the Smashing Pumpkins ever did (which is to say, they may come close! But I think the Discourse will eventually kill them)
