As for JRPGs, I had assumed that western fantasy media was the basis for a good deal of these because so much mechanically and aesthetically shows up in them. That and D&D getting named by the creative teams.

Of course I'm mostly talking about early Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Lodoss War.

This is fascinating! I can definitely see the fantasy pulp cover artists drawing on non-western infulences.

You are the first person I have seen suggest that Tolkien was looking to Eastern storytelling for inspiration in LotR. I'd love to read more about that.

There are alot of democrats shushing people who who reasonable criticism of Newsom, as though there is no other choice. But we have a strong Governor in Illinois.

He's not perfect, but he's good.

The point is, we have options and it doesn't hurt the party to be discerning in choosing a leader.

I think there is alot we can learn about the artistic process here. Taking the work of designers who have all identified a similar inspiration for their games, playing those designes, and seeing what each one pulled from that inspiration and how they chose to explore it.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
