I guess the relevant question is why bother with the theatrics of law at that point? It seems so expensive and annoying to interpret statutory law that way and deal with courts and judges and everything, why not just haul them out by their collars in front of their homes and use a bolt gun?

Sydney Reid acquitted.

This was a case where someone filming was assaulted, and then arrested and charged with felony assault.

The grand jury no billed that, so they took her to trial on a misdemeanor charge. There were a bunch of discovery problems.

And now this.

Kudos to the FPDS!

A verdict form for Sydney Lori Reid. She was found Not Guilty.

Just to be clear here are you hinging specifically on the word “state” as distinct from “country” here because yes the Israeli state doesn’t have a culture the way Israel has a culture but it would be awfully pedantic of you to invoke that distinction here

And I'm telling you, because this isn't really in dispute, that were this the case, a remark invoking racist tropes about black people and just subbing in the word "Americans" would be taken as extremely racist, and this would be a reasonable thing to do.

Apologies for not clarifying: I was asking that to see if you could consider hypotheticals. Since you can, I'm asking you to consider a hypothetical where, as is true in the real world vis a vis jews and Israel, black Americans were most Americans and were classically associated with America.

Do you have any thoughts as to why people might be saying it so much if it's entirely unimportant? It's just a little thing that doesn't matter to anyone which is why they're so ardent about it and trying to make sure lots of people know they believe it. Like with anything unimportant. Sure.
