Human geneticist turned data scientist in Seattle. Supporting clinicians at a large hospital. Human first. Kindness, standing up for people, sailing, climbing mountains, making a ruckus when necessary. Enduring optimist often tested to the limit.

For more information about the Friday night massacre at CDC, I wrote up an analysis of who got terminated and what that means for public health.

Grateful to @saveamericamvmt.bsky.social for supporting and amplifying. We are in really terrible trouble.

Fantastic FOMO I'm suffering this year for #ASHG25, but things are not great to travel to USA this year. Wondering how many other colleagues felt this was not a good time to go through USA immigration...

I once tried to draw my own blood after hours in lab for a control and it did not go this well.

Dispiriting that one of the better seismologists I know has ended up, after an impressive amount of good work in seismology at multiple institutions, as a web developer in the health sciences.

Thank you so much. Thankfully he got out with only minor burn and he’s mostly recovered from the smoke inhalation. His dog got out unhurt. These are the important things but the rest is still a lot.

I am not keeping up with the news. I can tell it’s bad. I’ve been helping my ex-husband get things like a phone, a computer, some clothes after his house burned.

One of those statues ended up in Fremont, Seattle as a public art piece. It gets dressed up for holidays. It’s an object of ridicule. It’s basically a monument to tearing down statues. There’s a Ukrainian neighbor who walks by and spits on it daily.

The thing that is most devastating to me about the ongoing evisceration of the public health infrastructure in the U.S right is how little awareness of what's going on the majority of people in the general public have and the impact this will have on their health and safety.

I’m very fortunate that my ex-husband is my best friend. When I moved to Seattle he gave me a place to stay until I found a place. Now he’s my roommate for the foreseeable future after his house burned on Friday. We have each other’s back through thick and thin. It’s good this way.

Probably around 100 give or take total right now.

My ex-husband’s house burned down tonight. He is my best friend. He lost everything but he and his dog got out. He’s spending the night in the burn unit but he’s mostly ok.

I recommend reading this really powerful letter from MIT!

MIT rejects "compact" proposed by the Trump administration.
MIT prez wrote: it "would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution" and "is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone."

The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. Scoop from our student newspaper, who’ve been doing vital reporting www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2025...
