The true enemies of a free society are apathy, ignorance, and cynicism. These are powerful forces, but they can be countered somewhat effectively with optimism, curiosity, logic, empathy, and healthy dialogues. Human beings who treat each other with respect can easily discuss many things sensibly.

I became cautious about fake accounts on the internet when I supported Obama in the primaries. I had joined a MySpace group for Dems in my state, which ultimately turned out to be run by racists. I think they were Republican tricksters. People may not be what they appear to be on the internet.

Just blocked about a hundred bots that followed me recently. Bots are pretty easy to spot. They have no common interests with you, post no real photos or videos of their lives, and absolutely love memes. Some pretend to be celebrities. I doubt Michelle Pfeiffer wants to know what I am posting here.

Republicans like to talk about real values as though having real values makes you bad. It is a pretty common tactic for those with no values to try to make values seem like weakness or stupidity. Sociopaths and con men use tricks like this all of the time.

I was just notified of yet another death in ICE custody — 20 people have died in their custody since Trump came into office.

ICE is detaining people, mostly in private, for-profit prisons that put profit over health. There must be accountability and oversight.

I think that the midterms are important, so registering voters is good, but aside from that practice it seems wise to pay attention to the present and try to help people who need help.

Along this line, I try my best to block bots that follow me, as I know they may be used for many reasons beyond spreading pornography and selling bitcoin, both of which I have no interest in. My greater concern has always been what bots can do in a crisis. They can spread bad ideas very easily.

With tensions this high, I fully expect to get scolded by angry people who do not see common cause with me. I also expect to be attacked by bots. I will be blocking both of those types of accounts, as well as any account suggesting any type of violence.
