As another young Gen Xer, I'll just add more clearly that planned obsolescence became a feature for many products. They saw the easy, short term profits that could be made by making products that including something shiny & exciting, but would fall apart in a shorter time & went full on greed.

After a stellar college career at Penn State, Blair Thomas, the 2nd pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, appeared to be a can't miss prospect. He had a solid rookie season as part of a multi-RB group for the Jets, but never did much after that. He ended up with only 2,236 yards & 7 rushing TDs in his career.

At slightly over the half way point, there really aren't any dominant teams in the NFL this year. A lot of solid teams that could step up into more elite status, but as of now, the road to the Super Bowl feels pretty wide open.
