With the death of Twitter I decided I wanted to stop outsourcing everything I say about sports to social media and pick up blogging again. I set up a new site and while it'll probably be mostly Nats as the you finally get more interesting, I'll be doing some Caps, Hokies, Commies, Mystics, etc. too.

It's baffling that Hernández didn't make it home on what should've at worst been a simple tag up, but it's funny that it wouldn't have mattered anyways.

That play could've been a lot weirder with Will Smith and Tommy Edman not running. Teoscar Hernández could have been "safe" at home and then the Brewers could have thrown to third and second to get a double play preventing the run from scoring.

I think this is why some of the Marvel multiverse stuff has fallen flat. That was a device to explain why they decided to abruptly change how a character acts after running out of story space, it's not supposed to be a story on its own.

Exactly I think that's Jarret's point. That the Phillies in contention signed Howard to a big deal, then in 2014 when it was clear the contention window was closed blocked Franco because they didn't want to pay Howard but not play him.

Yeah that was an unfortunate typo I missed before posting. In any case, the 102 wins in 2011 was the point, the Phillies were still in the middle of their competitive cycle when they re-signed Howard and were expecting to be for the life of that contract.

Before someone replies that should be 2011 not '12, but the Phillies were still the runaway division favorites in 2012 too. The Nats had a whole weekend dedicated to reversing their fortunes against the Phillies.

Yeah the Franco stuff was at the end of the contract in 15/16, but Howard was a negative impact for basically the entire contract

Also the Phillies were not supposed to suck those years! The Four Aces cover was in 2012! He's one of the reasons why they did!

I had that thought after the Oregon game that he would be the closest to the Beamer legacy. Win every game you're supposed to, win a tough game once a decade. But then he blew that reputation the last two weeks.
