We took the coastal road into town after dark, headlights cutting through the mist and clarifying nothing in the haze but movement. The sea, close and unseen, whispered secrets.

How soon after a smoke detector starts beeping with a low battery warning do you change it?

a week? month? a few months? Or when it goes quiet?

Also alas mum never finished her flight training. She stopped and started and then stopped again when she was having me. Oops. Soz mum.

Serendipity. Mum has two stories she tells about WWII. One, my stepdad in Arnhem surviving the bridge bombing. Second, from her GP in the ‘60s when she went for her pilot medical - he talked about being shot down over Germany.

Just found googling, those events happened within 2 hours of each other!

Can I be a kind of secular nun. Just holed up in a castle. With a couple hundred other uhhh nuns? Just for a decade or two?

A little joy from the weekend. I have this intersex+trans sticker on the back of my car.

After shopping on Saturday I found a note under my windscreen wiper on part of a torn off shopping receipt:

“Love the sticker! Jade xxy”

People are the important thing folks <3
A photo of the back of a dark Falcon xr6 with a sticker above the xr6 badge. The sticker is a little intersex sticker with a wave in it like a stylised flag in wind with a pink blue and white trans flag behind.

Another re-made poster.

from 2002, the TiBook 'Sends other UNIX boxes to /dev/null'

Print files of all the remade this and other posters, flyers and stickers at www.danamania.com/print/
A screenshot of Apple's poster and occasional magazine double spread. Titled at the top it "Sends other UNIX boxes to /dev/null" and shows a PowerBook G4 Titanium with a screenshot of a terminal window and powerpoint window in the same UI, with an iTunes dock menu popping out. On the desktop is a firewire drive, iPod, and an optical disk of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

coworker, sobbing: If NASA's missile fails, we're all going to be devoured and I can't bear to look up and see that awful thing!

me, realizing that no one will ever know I completely whiffed a deadline because I forgot and not because of the world eater: what's important is that we're all together

One of those arrived on my last day at Cambridge IV. At least, i think it was one of those? Walked past it as I was heading out but too many people were crowded around it

The Macintosh PowerBook BLIT was definitely safe for looking at all possible images.

For a little while, anyway.
A photo of a Macintosh PowerBook BLIT, with eight separate small and chaotically sized screens on its display where there would normally be one. Designed not to show all of an image at one time, it's showing some probably completely innocuous fractal-like design in part across the screens.

Short story; I wasn’t confident the new NAS would slip in invisibly so I asked a manager to test a thing. It worked ok. Good, confident now. Manager told everyone new nas was now the one to be used. Then I wiped that test migration and did the actual one two days later. Most folk lost two days work.

Oh I still have bad dreams about a NAS migration… and that was a simple simple thing screwed up by one manager…

The proofs were uncalibrated.

starting libreoffice for like the first time ever in a decade and what
whose idea is it that in dark mode a document should be white on black like unless you expect it to never ever hit a printer buddy you’re literally or at least pretending to be a serious office suite

oh wait it’s black on white again in print preview this somehow feels even worse I love a wysiwyg editor that lies to you even more than they usually do
