I was bit of a contrarian back then, too. Not overtly obnoxious about it, but definitely identified as an outcast. (Wasn’t gender conforming, religious, interested in many social constructs, etc.)

When things go against the grain like you do, the “vibes” might feel right even when they shouldn’t.

I actually know of quite a few people who have kind of the same story as me— even a close friend and I laugh about how we were ten second Libertarians.

When you’re at that age, independence sounds appealing, and as both of you are saying, it was “different” enough to feel (falsely) promising.

In fact, I’d identified loosely as “Liberal” for most of my life prior to that which drove my Conservative father nuts. Lmao.

Basically, I knew the structures and beliefs he followed didn’t fit my own worldview. Even back then, I felt it was incredibly close-minded.

I realized it pretty early on, too. Though, there was an incredibly short stint during college where I thought I was a Libertarian, but quickly understood I had the completely wrong idea of what that actually meant. (It was also deceptively marketed to me, I guess you could say.)

THIS

I know growing up in the Midwest in a religious home didn’t give me the best disposition, but I can safely say I never did anything like that.

Many of us require more introspection and have plenty of unlearning to do, but some need it MUCH MORE than others.

It’s very much a case of someone lacking in object permanence while dually believing their perception is not only reality, but the mainstream sentiment.

Oh, by the way she was talking it sounded like she was in the Young Republicans herself. But, to be fair, I don’t really know who she is or why she’s defending them so vehemently.

The last sentence I added for the lulz
myraccoonhands.com
Basically, yes. She’s insisting Young Republicans are racist now, but weren’t when she was involved.

You’re so woke you’ve cosmically imploded and are now a series of Russian Dolls trapped inside your self conscious.

The reason Altman is out saying he wants to build $10 trillion of data centers and Anthropic is leaking they’re going to be making $2bn (??) a month by end of 2026 is because they are desperate. These are the actions of companies that need more money, and need it quickly.

“Listen, I was in the Young Republicans and I’m here to tell you as a former Young Republican that looks back on that time with great fondness— I can verifiably tell you there was no racism whatsoever. In fact, racism didn’t even exist back then.”

And in the most crash out posting through it defensive way possible… Yikes.

“Yes I was exactly the same as Ted Bundy. Nailed it.”

If you say so!

When people say stuff like this out of defensiveness, don’t argue with them. Just agree. Lmao.

You’re not wrong.

It *is* exhausting to perceive things as they really are.

Now, if only what they’re saying wasn’t true. But, alas, it is. So, exhaustion it is, I guess?

Honestly, I did consider it. It’s been about a year since it happened. After it did, it took me a while to process all of it.

Thank you. I think that’s a very good way to put it.

To me, she lacked compassion.

Plus, it doesn’t help that she literally sneered when I told her I was upset about the election results. (I received a dx for autism the day after the 2024 US presidential election.)

Not to mention, calling genocide a “mess” is an interesting choice of words.
